As others have commented, the procedure itself does not take too long. I went with local anesthesia and save for some pain for about 15 minutes, it was easy. Ice packs, re s t should have you up and running (not literaly) within a few days. They still test for live sperm over the next few weeks and after that you and wifey are free and clear for ever. I disagree with someone who said it is reversible. While technically it is true, the doc said it is way too complicated and painful to join them tubes back up. Overall, I am very happy I got it done. That's where I had mine done, some time ago by Doctor Stopp. Yes, THE Dr. Stopp. I think he's retired now, but I believe his son has taken over his dad's practice. I had a local anesthetic but still was uncomfortable for days. It wasn't the cakewalk experience that some report having, but wasn't like recovering from a broken arm either. Everybody's experience is different. It's a reasonable thing to do when you're certain you made the decision that don't want to have any more children - though it takes a while for things to clear out and some people have had a last minute little surprise blessing! Long term hormonal birth control that's borne by the woman can have unintended consequences. So, sac up guys when the time is right and see your Dr. That's my 2¢. My reasons are threefold: one, I really don't want any kids; two, I believe it's so unhealthy for a woman to be on continuous birth control; and three, I freaking HATE rubbers. Let me know your thoughts after your consult Had the consult this morning; going to have the procedure done a week from Friday. Sounds very simple, with (hopefully) minimal discomfort. The doc had to handle my junk to make sure he could get at the tubes, but other than that he seemed like a good guy -- lol. Definitely think "no scalpel" is the way to go. Expectations are I'll need to lay low for 2-3 days, no swimming or hot tubs for a week, and after the procedure it takes about 15 "loads" on average to get rid of any leftover swimmers. Doc said I can drive myself to and from the appt, so it can't be that bad. Yeah, you'll be fine to drive right after. They generally give you a valium to take before the procedure, so that's nice. Take that 2-3 days of rest seriously. Make arrangements for that to be your couch potato time. Nothing else. You'll regret it if you move around too much. Since we all hate his wife, we figured she cheated on him (he was in the Navy at the time), but then we reminded ourselves that she was a fat, hairy B word, so we waited to see the baby - mainly what color it was. (disclaimer - I have no medical training) This was about 14 or 15 years ago, so I'm assuming with scalpel. It's a sore subject (pun intended) so I really can't ask. My wife and I did in vitro. I was sent to a small room with a leather couch, a TV, porn tapes and magazines and a plastic cup. Imagine the feeling of opening the door, then having to walk past a bunch of people, every one of whom knowing what I'd just finished doing.
