[i]So we know from previously posted material that releasing classified information is considered "giving aid and comfort" to the enemy. The questions are do we have an enemy, and did he know that releasing that information would do us harm? I can't imagine that he didn't recognize that what he was doing wouldn't help out our enemies, which we have. Since he openly confessed to leaking classified material, what else is needed to charge him with treason?

Intent, adherence to an enemy at war with the United States, overt acts, and witnesses (his public statements mean squat at the moment). Especially intent.

We're just talking in circles.

Good luck with your case.

No, it's not.

I see you're working on your post count again with your short insightful proclamations. Why is that so important to you when you've already assumed the mantle of PPP's Supreme Physicist, Esteemed Historian, Military Genius, Ultimate Climatologist, Legal Beagle, Preeminent Idiot Judge and Political Mastermind? It's like having our own real Cliff Clavin, the human Swiss Army Knife.

which program are you referring to?

Both. The phone program for sure, and to a lesser extent PRISM which as far as I have been shown does not effect US citizens or people in the US unless you have correspondence with a foreign terror suspect.I'm sure more will come out but I haven't seen it yet.

I just like watching you pretend you know what you're talking about. It's like watching a four-year-old play dress-up. It amuses me.

I've been too busy to delve too deeply into the details, so you may be right, but I was under the impression that all phone calls, emails, text messages, web searches, etc. were being logged in a massive database. Are you sure this isn't part of the program?

The phone program bugs me, a lot, because even at the level of the data they're collecting it still amounts to running a SIGINT operation on US citizens.

PRISM...it's the same damn program that the Bush administration started after 9/11, except by FISC order. I didn't object to Bush's, I don't object to this...and anyone who objects to this program and supported Bush's is nothing more than a shill.

As far as I know that is true for phone calls, not true for texts or web stuff...

Regarding the phone calls, content isn't. Basically source and destination information. Relatively benign. PRISM stores more, but is limited in scope to foreign contacts.

According to reports. Whether or not you choose to believe those reports is a different story.

I have heard a few tv heads claiming that basically the system is source/destination/time of call is stored forever...then they can go back w/ FISA warrant to look at all of that info for a number once they identify a number as a target...

For Internet the heads claim they do look at actual content but that nothing for US citizens ever and nothing for people in the US ... unless of course looking at there their stuff happens when looking at foreign terrorists stuff .... but supposedly this program is in someway "real time" and they catch traffic of targets as they flow through US servers ... they do not collect or store this data as they do w/ the phone stuff...

In other words...phone stuff is trolling with a net and they sift through what they catch once they have a target to look for...and Internet stuff is more like spear fishing (to stick w/ the fishing analogy) where as they need to identify something ahead of time and need to target that specific fish in real time.

Have you ever considered that you say "I" or "me" quite a bit in your posts? It's like you have this need for you or your opinion to become the focal part of any discussion. I haven't had this much fun since watching John Nash run for his life.

Have you ever considered that you spend more time posting about me than I do?

I'm not sure I trust that they're not recording the web stuff. All this stuff creeps me out. If they're limited to real time surveillance I'm not as concerned because they don't have the resources to effectively monitor 300 million people simultaneously, but can you imagine how much power you would have if you could access every phone call, email, web search, etc. that anyone has made over the course of a lifetime?

I think a lot of people miss the point on this. I remember simple minded reporters parroting the concerns they were told to have about the poor innocent Americans that had their phone calls eaves dropped on during the Bush years. While I agree that sucks, and have/had other reservations about warrantless wiretaps, these dipshits didn't seem to understand why it was a problem. They were on the right side of the issue, but not because they had any sense or rational basis for arriving there, but rather they blindly just happened upon it. I'm not worried about some NSA dick finding out what offensive jokes I've made or strange porn I may have looked up; I'm concerned about the ability of those in power to readily and easily destroy anyone who becomes a problem for them. And I'm fairly certain that most everyone has said, done, or searched for something that could be very damaging if brought to light. And when you're in power, and have the ability to destroy anyone who becomes a threat to that power, the potential for tyranny is fairly obvious.
