KOKBILLS Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 But can any of the players understand what McKelvin is telling them? Point taken...
Matt in KC Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Please, please, please someone start a new thread if there's actually anything new at all regarding Byrd. I hate jumping to the last page of this monster, but feel compelled to do it every few days!

mitchmurraydowntown Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 changed it for ya. He'll be back to collect checks this season, at least I feel that's the case.
mrags Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 He'll be back to collect checks this season, at least I feel that's the case. no. He won't. He'll be traded before then. You will be wrong no... I won't.
Doc Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 no. He won't. He'll be traded before then. no... I won't. Can't see him being traded for a high pick and $9M/year, especially after missing so much time with a potential new team. And there's no way he sits-out the season.
San-O Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 He'll be back to collect checks this season, at least I feel that's the case. He's not under contract currently, so how does that work out? He would have to do the franchise tag deal?

And there's no way he sits-out the season. thats the unfortunate thing about it. He won't be traded for that high of a draft pick. It's a case where you get something when you would have lost him anyway.

It's a case where you get something when you would have lost him anyway. I don't see them trading him for less than a 2nd. No reason when he won't miss any games and is costing them just $6.9M.
mrags Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I don't see them trading him for less than a 2nd. No reason when he won't miss any games and is costing them just $6.9M. 2nd is about right. Maybe a 3rd. Think of it this way. They either get a 3rd for him or absolutely nothing next off season when he becomes a FA again. We could go on and on. Round and round about how he will show up. Or he won't. The facts are, he's not signed right now. He hasn't shown up. It's not looking like he's going to. Either way, if he does, I wouldn't want him starting week 1 if he shows up a week before the season. He won't be in football shape. He won't know the defensive schemes. The defensive plays. And he won't have the comfort of having worked with the guys that have been here all camp. My personal opinion, is that Marrone won't accept that either. Of course I don't know that and I've never talked to Marrone. But if I was a HC of a pro football team for the first time, and this guy played games with my team when in trying to set examples about team atmosphere... I wouldn't let him play. Of course the other side of it is the fact that Marrone has the responsibility of putting the best players on the field and he's responsible for giving everyone on the team the best chance to win. Byrd most likely would do that. But at the same time, if he's not here and learning with the other defensive players, he COULD be a liability. Either way, I've stood my ground that I think he's done as a Buffalo Bill. I'm hoping I'm wrong, but in sticking to it.
papazoid Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Byrd is NOT getting traded....not this year or next. he plays for the bills for 2013 & 2014 or sits home. after we tag him a third time in 2015, then we trade him.

There is no negotiating on a long-term deal at this point so there's no leverage on their side and all it does it make him lose $431K a game and Parker 3% of that. Again I don't see a team offering even a 3rd for him plus $9M/year, when he's missed all of the off-season and pre-season, and I don't see the Bills trading him for anything less than a 2nd. And they can franchise him again next year, although I don't see a 3rd year happening. And you may be right that they'll sit him if he's not ready. And if he isn't, I'd encourage them to sit him.

I hate jumping to the last page of this monster, but feel compelled to do it every few days! mitchmurraydowntown started this thread and has the ability to close it at any time. He should do the right thing and close it. He can start a new one, if so desired. If nothing else, it's annoying to see a thread titled, 'Byrd Skipping mandatory mini-camp' well into training camp and a mere week from the first pre-season game.
