i'd be more interested on your take -- once this all over -- of the Kills, if you haven't had an opportunity to give then a listen. pick up either of the two albums i've references. i promise i will not steer you wrong.

Okay, so first I sampled "Midnight Boom," and thought it was fair. I was able to say, out of 12 tracks, that I genuinely liked 5 or 6 of them. I found that album randomly on youtube. I should have done a little homework, because had I known it was their 3rd album, I would have looked for something earlier.

So I did a little homework and found their first album, "Keep on Your Mean Side." I thought this was very, very good. Far better than "Midnight Boom," in my opinion. I wish I'd listened to it first, but no big deal.

As far as White Stripes go, I've heard all of their albums and I think each one is far better than the two Kills albums I listened to today.

Listening to "No Wow" as I write this (a little more than halfway through). I like it better than "Midnight Boom," but not as much as "Keep on Your Mean Side."

However, I do like the Kills and I'm glad you introduced me to them.

i would not have recommended "Midnight Boom." Sorry for that, especially to begin with. there's rawness in the other two albums. listened to "No Wow" on a long road trip, and had to put it back on again just to make sure i understood it even more. While "Mean ... Side" is them finding their voice, in my opinion, "No Wow" is The Kills finding their maturity.

glad you enjoyed them.

i think it was implied in the mumford thread that i was too hipster, and only disliked them because they were popular.

i stand by, mumford and the lumineers etc are the equivalent of creed and nickelback to the grunge movement. prepackaged, formulaic, safe entertainment. There is a place for that, and i wont deny having my own guilty pleasure bands - but lets call a spade a spade - they are more entertainment than art.

oh man....you are killing me!!! I love mumford & the lumineers...

Go buy some old crow and decemberists both push the bounds of that sound and have been for a decade.

Like I said, no shame, its catchy, I don't knock anyone for poppy stuff- it's sole design is to get you hooked. I have my own guilty pleasures.

I think this has been mentioned but I'd like to add to my list of overrated: Rush. Now don't get me wrong I really like them and as a drummer who can actually play along with Neal Pert pretty damn well Getty Lee's voice not my cup of tea. So as R&R "Gods" they get an overrated for me.

And that has been my criteria in this thread. If you're treated as a R&R God you're going to get an overrated from me.

so, let me get this straight, you've essentially acknowledged that you're trolling this thread. ... thanks, then, for making that clear. that certainly explains the schizophrenic nature of your posts.

I agree with you Jim! I feel the same way about Led Zeppelin. But I'm also "trolling" I guess hahaha.

I also like Mumford and Sons. I figure that's worth a warning point right? Haha

So I can name a band that is overrated and explain why I think they're overrated and I'm trolling but you can explain why you think a band is overrated and you're some music insider? Ok? You're a hoot man.

Well according to jw I'm not sure if you're trolling. I'm not sure he's a Zep fan. We'll find out soon.

i'm supposed to respond to this? you've acknowledged that you will simply serve as a contrarian adding that anyone considered a "rock and roll god," you will essentially dismiss. is this not trolling? what a baby.

you've put forward no case at the very least. you've taken a disagreeable tack throughout this entire thread, pretty much. so continue to strike that pose for all i care. you have given up whatever semblance of credibility when it comes to this thread. thanks, though, for setting the record straight.

There is a difference between disliking a band and saying they're overrated. I get that Plant's and Lee's voices may be like nails on a chalkboard. But to say they are overrated just proves either that you are trolling or you don't know a lot about the history of rock. Like them, or not, each band has served as a major influence for at least one of your favorite rock bands. That keeps them out of the overrated category.

JW didn't say I was trolling, Fig did. But there's plenty of room for trolls. Welcome aboard the troll train!

So saying a band is considered as Rock and Roll Gods are overrated is dismissing them? Well I guess it is safe to assume you're cherry picking my posts. I've said I like all music, well with a few exceptions but to put them on a pedestal and worship them as gods (R&R hall of fame) is overrating them. I even mentioned a band that I effing have loved for 40 year (Yes) is overrated. It's !@#$ing R&R man. It's something I blast through my iPhone when I'm working in the yard. And I'm the baby. :w00t:

Oh for the love of god. Do you not understand the term "personal opinion"? What I feel is overrated you may love. There is nothing in the world wrong with that. I just may not understand the worship that the band you love gets and vice versa. :wallbash:

i've made my case. you've made yours by trolling.

I think the epitome of a troll is someone who starts a thread and says this:
