So maybe Chloe won't be back. (The Salazar wife-babe got offed last year just when Jack was warming her up because the actress had another commitment, so characters have disappeared from 24 like this before.) 266420[/snapback] OK, she's back. It seems they can't make their minds up about Edgar -- they were growing him into a hero, and now he's a malcontent. What are the chances of an Edgar/Sarah subplot? The shadowy guy threatened to dish some dirt publically on Palmer unless Palmer canned his brother. Instead of firing his brother, Palmer sends his even shadowier/eviler ex wife over the shadowy guy's house to do something evil and shadowy to him to get him to drop the whole thing with Palmer's brother. Only the ex-wife ended up getting the shadowy guy dead. The ex-wife, then took this info to Palmer's opponent in the Presidential race, who threatened to make this public unless Palmer dropped out of the race, which he did. So that is how the current President got to be president. Does that do it? 283708[/snapback] I actually miss Sherry Palmer, even if her character really didn't make sense. Has anyone else noticed that offed 24 Jack love interests show up as guest victims on "House"? The actress who played Terry (Jack's wife, Season #1) was a homeless woman last month and last week the actress who played Nina (Season #1 mole, #2 and #3 bad guy) was a 32-year-old CEO needing a heart transplant. I can see how you'd think the writers went out of their way to put her in seasons 2 & 3, but the character's personality was classic. I can't remember how many times I would have decked her. What I meant was, here's the President of the United States, the most powerful man in the world, up to his neck in bioterror, and yet he sends his ex-wife out for poltical dirty work around midnight. I saw her as more of a wheeler-dealer than a covert ops agent (remember her work at Allan what's-his-name's house?). It's not exactly David Palmer, but you do see Dennis Haysbert in at least one Allstate commercial during 24 every week. Meanwhile, since it's now past 9 pm in LA (midnight in Washington), when does it get unrealistic to bring new characters in? (Like that matters.) There's no way a military pilot does what that guy did. Also, there's alot more to getting to a priority A resource than a badge and a bioscan. Please. 2. The tunnel thing was amazingly stupid. Anyone with a tactical background would have figured that out as it was happening. 3. The way they pulled over the college professor broke pretty much every rule of the scenario. Yeah, let's have everyone approach a Middle Eastern terrorist sitting in a car. Our cable provider doesn't give us CNN. Now they're going to try and bring down Air Force One with a single fighter jet. Because in time of national emergency that particular plane flies without the best fighter escort the seemingly unlimited US taxpayer dollars can buy. I imagine the way they're going to get around that particular thing is have this guy be part of the replacement crew for the current escorts. However, in reality he'd have to sit in a room to get preflight briefings, packages, etc. At that point the jig would be up. Otherwise he'd be stealing a plane that would have no gas in it and no weapons package - because they don't sit ready at all times unless they are under armed guard with pilots who've already had the prerequisites covered. The point is 24 is fiction. Thus, the literary concept of "suspension of disbelief" comes into play. I don't know what teh real "security protocols" are for an Air Force Base. He has a different standard for a show's realism than others might. I wish I could come up with a good example, but this is what comes to mind now. Let's say there's a movie about professional football. In the movie, it is considered normal for players to be 45 years old. Despite the fact that it is not reality, we would criticize that, wouldn't we? The standard to question stuff like that differs person to person. For instance...and i mentioned this earlier in this thread... A CRITICAL REACTOR IS A GOOD THING. The term "critical" means that the reactor is working properly. It is very difficult however to maintain a reactor exactly critical. Sometimes it subcritical and sometimes its supercritical. Usually a reactor fluctuates between subcritical and supercritical with critical being somewhere inbetween. Supercritical in and of itself bad either! Its very common. There is NO SUCH THING as a nuclear reactor override device. EVERY reactor will shut itself down well before somthing to the extent that occured on 24 happens. In the event the automatic protection functions fail to work, the operators can manually shut down the plant. There is no override device removing local control of the reactor. It would be beyond stupid to do so. All these anti-nuclear people out there dont even understand how a reactor works. Everyone knows that a fresh stool sample is need as well. How did they overlook that!?!?! The funny this is that you actually watch the show. I watch it as well. They did a good job with it. The 2nd season started strong but jumped the shark when his daughter faced off with the dreaded mountain lion. This season is the "well, we ran out of ideas so let's start making stuff up that have no basis in reality." If there's a season four, I doubt I'll be watching it. Guess it'll be down to just "Rescue Me," "Scrubs," and "The Shield," with an occasional drive by of "Arrested Development." Network TV really sucks now.
