Reggie Williams post NFL story

While you feel for the older vets, I can't think of another employer who can be sued for a workman's comp case decades after leaving the company. And "having to resort to Medicare" as some unfortunate fate is bizarre. Medicare is the largest insurance company in the country and all of these guys over 65 would be on medicare anyway--and this operation and its complications would be fully covered by Medicare. And doesn't the article say that Disney paid for his surgery at HSS?

If players want to be able to sue for comp out of the state of their former team, tell them not to sign a contract that prohibits them from doing this.

League and NFLPA needs to work on language. This happens in civilian life as well; as an example companies can offer HMO and PPO plans and HMO plans have higher benefits and lower costs but limit you on doctors you can see; list of doctors on PPO plan is a lot longer and you do not need to get primary doctor approval but not only is amount paid lower but deductibles are higher as well. NFL players want HMO costs and PPO flexibility.

True, but very few jobs have this type of long term impact on health. NFL knows they could be in store for asbestos type litigation claims. That's also why retiree benefits were such a huge issue in cba talks.
