Jauronimo
Hawking, while certainly the most famous, isn't widely considered to be among the most influential physicists of his own generation, let alone, of all time.
meazza
2 things: 1. Why do I care what Steven Hawkings' political position is on anything? I think we've learned all we need to know about the effectiveness of putting college professors in charge, without anybody from the real world along to ride shotgun: see Stimulus FAIL, and Obama Presidency in general. Rahm Emanuel was that voice (see: "That's F'ing Retarded"), but he was cast aside, so that Obama & company could go "full retard". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6WHBO_Qc-Q 2. I love how the Palestinians are the virtuous victims here. http://www.algemeiner.com/2013/05/09/palestinian-authority-leader-threatens-to-nuke-israel/ That's the guy who runs the Olympic team saying that. JTSP: get a life, get a clue. You're not ever going to be right about this, not ever. Israel is wrong but Syria isn't in the bizzarro world of jTSP. Oh well. OCinBuffalo
Israel is wrong but Syria isn't in the bizzarro world of jTSP. Oh well. Sorry, but I really haven't been paying too much attention to how JTSP's world view fits much of anything. Israel my be wrong, but, when you have Palestinians saying they'd nuke you, right out in the open, are you telling me that they don't have a right to protect themselves? Or, victims don't run around swearing nuclear revenge. The exact opposite of victims do that.
DC Tom
Yes I may lack some perspective as to who is smarter than who in physics. But I'm also not trying to bull **** my way thru the thread like I do have perspective. And maybe some of the other people you listed above were/are as smart or smarter than Hawking. That doesn't change my statement. Hawking is one of the smartest Mofos that has ever lived. You're not trying to bull **** your way through the thread...followed by a bull **** statement. You're an idiot.

B-Man
Anti-Israel Prof. Noam Chomsky helped BDS get to Stephen Hawking If you think Stephen Hawking’s decision not to attend a conference in Israel was a principled stand for academic or other freedoms, you can drop that notion. Hawking, as many have pointed out in the past few days, has attended conferences in the past several years in such beacons of academic freedom and national tolerance as Iran and China. What’s becoming very clear is that Hawking was targeted with a concerted pressure effort to bully the aging, seriously ill scientist into lending his name to the demonization of Israel. We already knew that Hawking was pressured by Palestinian academics, but The Guardian reports the vile anti-Israel U.S. Professor Noam Chomsky spearheaded the effort to pressure Hawking as well, Noam Chomsky helped lobby Stephen Hawking to stage Israel boycott:

DC Tom
Go on presstv.ir. Even bed bugs are a vast zionist conspiracy. I love the comments on that site. Iran launches a corvette that was an obsolete design 20 years ago, and people start gushing about how the US Navy is doomed. I'd call them idiots over there...but they lack the context to even comprehend the observation.

truth on hold
You're attributing twitter and blog posts to an entire country Man you really are a !@#$ing moron. You missed the joke. Of course nothing out of Israel could ever be offensive. Like this bogus article from The Guardian: According to Shurat HaDin, an Israel law centre which represents victims of terrorism, the equipment has been provided by the hi-tech firm, Intel, since 1997. "Hawking's decision to join the boycott of Israel is quite hypocritical for an individual who prides himself on his whole intellectual accomplishment. His whole computer-based communications system runs on a chip designed by Israel's Intel team. I suggest if he truly wants to pull out of Israel he should also pull out his Intel Core i7 from his tablet," said Nitsana Darshan-Leitner of Shurat HaDin. http://www.guardian....-israel-boycott Musta ben dem dam E-Ron-Ions behind it. Time for America to send over its men and money to defend Israel's honor. Right, Mr. Canada? Edited May 12, 2013 by Joe_the_6_pack

Thats a big fail by you and your sorry attempt at an anti-Israel position. .
