metzelaars_lives Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) Agreed, teams like the Steelers and Pats would never do Hard Knocks. Fine. But IMO, it would help the Bills more than hurt. I don't think it is much of a negative distraction. And face it, these guys love being in the spotlight. Stevie would be in heaven. I like the idea. FAs don't want to go to Bflo because it is so irrelevant, but it wou;d be great exposure for picking up future FAs to see things like the fans at St John Fisher, how the new staff interacts, and don't forget the weather would be fantastic that time of year. Bflo would shine on nataional TV. Would love to see Crazy Kiko, as well as how smart and charismatic EJ would come across. I love the show and would be thrilled if the Bills were on it. Plus, they haven't made the playoffs in 13 years. They have never neem on Hard Knocks. Tell me why we don't want to try something different? Well the Ravens did it and they are a pretty successful franchise. But yeah I agree with literally everything you wrote. I'd be all about it. Edited May 1, 2013 by metzelaars_lives
OCinBuffalo Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) It would be great for the team, the franchise, the players, and the coaches. The Jests went to the AFC championship both years? There is no drawback except in the mind of you old fuddy duddies that are scared of new fangeled technology. Get that Camera off my lawn! I was an enterprise technical architect and project manager, before I was a CEO. The notion that I am scared of technology...that's hilarious. I know about forming a new team, and how important it is to keep the distractions around that new team to minimum, so that strong interpersonal relationships, and trust, get a chance to develop unhindered by external buffoonery. I know this because I've seen first hand what happens when you don't manage those things properly. Russ Brandon's #1 job is to move as many things as he can out of his people's way, so they can do their jobs. It's not to put marketing boondoggles, that hinder operations for little value add, in their way. If he doesn't know this, then he should be fired yesterday. EDIT: Let's define "boondoggle". If it is true that Hard Knocks doesn't mean more wins, then that is the definition of "little value add". If it is true that playing a game in Canada = more $, and less need to raise prices, then that is a value add, and we can howl all we want, but, it's not a boondoggle. A CEO who has earned the job, because he's done all the jobs on the way up, knows this. A CEO who got the job from his dad(ahem, Woody Johnson) doesn't. That's why I would never have this nonsense anywhere near my new team, or my new head coach, and, that's why Woody chose to treat his team like it was some new bar of soap/feminine hygiene product that needed "buzz". But, yeah...the real reason I don't want this is: I'm a fuddy duddy who is scared of technology. Edited May 2, 2013 by OCinBuffalo
machine gun kelly Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Considering Marrone acts quite a bit like Belicheck in his communication to the media, there is not a snowball's chance of this happening nor do i want it.
BillsfanAlberta Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 The NFL is all about rating's, hence why on the NFL network they hardly mention the Bill's that is unless the Bills make a decision the don't like that is why I don't think hard knocks Bills would ever happen. Maybe they shoul call the NFL network the Big Market network, or maybe I get a second rate canadian feed who knows?
Haplo848 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 If Hard Knocks was something that could only be seen by Bills fans and not hurt the team in any way, I'd actually be interested in watching that show for once. However, even with that caveat, which is completely implausible, I'd still be against it. With all the rookies and young guys were relying on this year, it would be an added distraction that would take away from time spent learning the play book or practising. So no, I'm definitely against it.

Maybe they shoul call the NFL network the Big Market network, or maybe I get a second rate canadian feed who knows? Purely from the NFL's standpoint, the reason they might want the Bills to do Hard Knocks is because every year it's difficult to find a team willing to do it. If it's a choice between the Bills and no one….
AKA Bigdog Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 I'd rather sit and watch a dumpster fire.....oh wait........
CodeMonkey Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 I think it would make for an interesting season of Hard knocks granted we're biased because we're Bills fans but it would make for an interesting storyline I think. rookie QB tryin to beat out the Veteran, the shiny new WR corp and all the drama that will certainly ensue, the new defense. There will be lots of positional battles at SJF for sure. It has the makings of a good show. I know its been called a distraction before and the old regime wanted nothing to do with it but now the publicity might do us some good. It's not like it is gonna distract us from a superbowl run lets be realistic.....thoughts? Every team that drafts a QB has a "rookie QB trying to beat out the veteran". The Bills have been irrelevant for at least the last 13 years. No one but Bills fans would care or watch if the show focused on the Bills.

Well FWIW, when the Bengals were the featured team in 2009, the series got it's highest ratings ever to that point, beating out the Chiefs, Ravens, and two seasons of the Cowboys.
Heitz Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 FWIW (and for those that have it) NFLN is replaying the Jets HN. And while it's not the Bills, there is some Mike Pettine featured! I love HN and think a Bills season would be amazing. I'm not sure it's the circus side show it was thought of, as long as your organization isn't blowing it I guess! Still bring it on, I promise I'll watch every episode...

billsfan89 Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I wouldn't mind it, but I would prefer they didn't just seems like its unnecessary.
SBUffalo Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Love your avatar CBF Thanks man. Wish I knew who did it. It's a pretty good shop.

benderbender Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 No, no it wouldn't. Give me an example of a team that has underachieved relative to their talent as a result of being on Hard Knocks. It's an old wives tale. an urban legend. Once again, after last season's Hard Knocks, I thought there was a decent chance the Dolphins would go 0-16. All that being said, if I'm Doug Marrone, I wouldn't want it, but it wouldn't have an effect either way. Hey Buffalo could use a little publicity. We're neck and neck with Browns in terms of being the most irrelevant team in the league and have been for awhile. I guess the better question would be, would a classy organization like the Bellicheatriots ever do Hard Knocks? I didn't think so.
BillsFanForever19 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 According to this article, if we have hard knocks here people will see Tavon Austin in a Bills uniform. So i'm all for it http://www.sportskeeda.com/2013/05/09/nfl-the-candidates-for-hbos-hard-knocks/
Drewgetz Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I agree it would be interesting, but I have zero interest in it happening, and I imagine that Marrone would have zero interest in the distraction. Exactly right.
RCOHEN13 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Wow, I am really in the minority on this one. Hard Knocks is one of my favorite shows ever. I have seen every single episode- most more than once- since season 2 (I missed the Ravens one). Honestly, it's like porn for real football fans. And while I could certainly see why the Bills (or any team for that matter) wouldn't want the distraction, like another poster pointed out, it certainly didn't hurt the Dolphins last year. And how can any of you who have actually watched the show sit here and tell me you wouldn't be incredibly excited to watch the Bills on Hard Knocks? I mean, I get excited enough watching the Chiefs and the Bengals and the Dolphins- teams I don't give a s*** about. I would go nuts to see the Bills up close and personal like that, it would be awesome! To see who's cool and who's a douche. Who works hard, who dogs it. To root for that undrafted rookie FA who everyone's pulling for. Anyone who says they wouldn't get excited to watch it is either lying to themself or hasn't seen the show. 100% agree... Its a must watch show for any hardcore football fan and is the only reality TV show worth watching! As much as i hate Dolphins, i watched every episode and the best episode in history of show is when Tannenhill is sitting in QB meeting room and talking and teams and divisions in NFL and had no clue who played where... That was an instant classic! i was in total shock how a guy that was a 1st round pick and a QB who is supposed to be "smart" guy and didnt know it. Not like there has been major re-alignment in last 10 years and for a QB not to know that i found just hysterical! We actually DO have quite a few "attractions" for producers of show... Having a QB competition is GREAT for show as it was last yr with Moore and Ryan and was god for TV drama seeing how Phins made decision and we have a great storyline at WR at Phins did last yr but we at least have TALENT there to see who will win which jobs. And we got last yr's star of show at training camp this year is HOGAN!!! On D, it will b great TV seeing how coaches discuss hybrid D and moving guys around and stuff. I've watched all seasons of the show and NONE of which hurt a team in terms of competitive disadvantage cuz teams see things... Show is about inner workings of training camp, tough choices at key positions, find a vet or 2 to "follow" and same goes for a few young guys. Would be a GREAT way to get to know WHO are guys are as people, not just football players! I for one would never even have to DVR an episode cuz i'd be watching it live EVERY week! I'd love to see the training camp pranks especially at WR with SJ13 now being a "vet" WR and whole bunch of kids at his position.. i can see Stevie doing some awesome stuff to them and there is no one outside of the QB's that would gain national media attention like Stevie would!
