May Movies: Star Trek, Iron Man, After Earth, & Great Gatsby....

Recommended Posts

Alright, so I saw the full thing finally. Wow. Started out slow and a little bit confusing. It was intense as it got going, though you have to follow closely at first and remember it is a flashback. It gave RDJ a great chance to show his ability to act vs. the other movies, for that alone it was worth it. A lot of action with him not wearing the suit, too!

All those clips, the commercials, teasers... they leave you with no real idea where this movie is going to go!!! (It's a good thing)

The story

I think it was strange at first, the whole Tony being crazy was strange, and the boy being involved...not sure there. I was hoping for a cameo from one of the Avengers crew, at the very least Romanoff, or someone. I did not think they used Rhodes as well as they could have, either. A great character they developed in the first movie only to struggle in the second and barely be used for the third. I guess that is because RDJ did so much acting.

The very end, huge spoiler, no joke, do not read unless you have seen it...

Wow, so Tony gets the chest piece removed? Yet, says he is still Iron Man. I am very curious where the next Avengers will go. I am so glad they got Pepper fixed, as well. Any word of an Iron Man 4? Or is Avengers 2 considered end of the road?

Saw it tonight and I enjoyed it. It was better than the last installment.

Guy Pearce & Ben Kingsley made this very enjoyable. I also liked watching Stark fight without the armor.

Star Trek is easier because you do not have to be a fan of Star Trek in order to enjoy Abrams' movie.

So when she saw Dark Knight Rises, did she come to the conclusion that comic book movies can actually be good in more than just the special effects department, or did she fall asleep?

I have to drive her and my mom to a wedding shower on May 18th which is being held in the same town as a massive IMAX theater. Star Trek opens that weekend. Problem solved!

Yeah it was much less about the suit. In fact, the suit became a figurative and literal burden. Seems like Jarvis can do just as well with them. Rhodie is better without one also.

I thought the ending with Pepper was a bit of a cop out - "I fixed her". Booo.

That still does not guarantee that she will go with you.

Uh-Oh.

Rotten Tomatoes has "The Great Gatsby" at 43%. Granted it's only a handful of reviews, but this is not a good sign.

They probably should have done a crossover, like "Cowboys and Aliens" or "The Lone Ranger (featuring Tonto fighting vampires)."

I mean, you just couldn't go wrong with something like that. Imagine, "The Great Gatsby, Werewolf Hunter." Instant classic.

Considering other crossovers that have happened, it may not be that ludicrous of an idea.

Do me a favor and, if you get a chance, pitch it to Roland Emmerich.

Because if you're going to do something that retarded, this is one time you actually DO go full retard.

You're driving two women to an out of town wedding shower?

I've gotta think your problems are just beginning........

I have the book at 27%, so maybe the film is an improvement.

It's 20 minutes tops, but a town I would otherwise not go to for movies. I'm not big on IMAX, but Star Trek sounds like a good one for that.

Yes it is a strange move that most people are not going to pay for.

I was roped into seeing it tonight (not in 3D though). It was really bad. I have no idea what they were thinking with this one. The combination of over the top visuals and modern music was mind numbingly stupid. I found the party scenes to be nauseating.
