Gordio
Ok so I have an aversion to casino style gambling. And if you think what I do is the same you'd be way off. My father in law literally blew his life savings @ the Casino playing Video Poker. He still has good pension & is fine financially because he worked @ GM all his life but man the money he blew @ Seneca Niagara & in Vegas he could of paid off my house, paid for my kids college & still probably had more then a cool million in his savings account. Every once in a while my wife thinks about it & almost goes in a panic attack from him blowing that much dough. I always tell her no use crying over it now. My wife despises gambling(yeah I know she married the wrong guy). Anybody that bets slots at the casino is an idiot, plain & simple. You might as well throw the money right out the window. shrader
All I need to do is walk the floor at the casino I'm working at, and see the people keep hitting that "spin" button at $2/time, several times in one minute, to keep me from gambling. It's amazing what people fall for too. I was at a casino last night and standing by a blackjack table. They had some strange side bet thing about matching cards. This woman was doing it each time and she never won once. The rate this woman was blowing through money was shocking. She then walked off pissed after she disagreed with one choice my friend made. Funny, I would have thought dropping hundreds of dollars in five minutes would make you walk off pissed.

Blackjack & Craps if you know what you are doing you could win money. But you got to be good & you have to have to have the stomach to ride out a bad shoe or 2 before the cards shift. Those side bets they offer in Blackjack are suckers bets. They would not offer them if they did not favor the house. The same with insurance in Blackjack. I go to Vegas once a year & rarely step into the Casino except for the sports book. I used to win money playing Blackjack when I was younger but with a mortgage, 2 kids, I just don't have the bankroll or the stomach for it anymore. I can't remember the last time I was at the Casino around here. Had to be 5-6 years ago.
Fezmid
That whole slots thing is quite depressing if you ask me. I'm an early riser and I've walked through a casino at 6 or 7 am and see them there and walk through later in the day and they're still at it. I'm way too fidgetty for that. First time I went to Vegas, girlfriend and I woke up early (7am or so) and went to play some $1 blackjack. We sat a table and this guy was completely wasted, betting $20-$50/hand, and losing every time. Once he lost his money, he'd get up, go to an ATM, come back a few minutes later, and repeat the process. He probably went through a good $1k in the time we were there. The dealer said that the guy had been playing since like midnight or something. Ridiculous. That said, I did come out ahead by 40% when I went to Vegas for a conference last year. I put $5 in the slot machine and got $7 back! I beat the house!
Cugalabanza
The fact that casinos exist and flourish…I don’t know if there’s a better illustration of the profound stupidity and desperation of the human race. And I say this as a Bills fan.

That said, there's nothing wrong with gambling if you set boundaries and have fun doing it. I played poker at the Venetian, just for the experience. Lost $100 in a little over an hour, but went in with the mentality that I was spending the money just for the experience, and if I lose, I lose. That, to me, is no different than spending money to see a show. Just don't get carried away.

I would rather "blow" $100 at Bouchon on oysters and Champagne.

But lordy have had some glorious runs and some great times as well. BTW, just as an aside, the first legal online poker game just started up for Nevada residents, hopefully national soon. Owned by the same game owns the UFC. I look at it as entertainment value. I will be making a run to the OTB after my sons travel baseball game tomorrow. Anything stick out to you(I really do not follow the ponies). I think it is supposed to be muddy at the derby tomorrow.

Fan in San Diego
I started gambling at the Fort Erie race track as a kid. We would sell discarded racing forms and programs to newly arriving patrons. When we had $2 or $5 bucks we would stop and go in and bet on the races. we usually won and kept gambling the rest of the day. If we lost that first bet, back to selling programs. I have followed horse racing ever since and have made some money betting the races, mostly just enjoy the whole experience. I look at casino's as a form of entertainment. I'll take $100 to gamble with, if I break even or come close I look at it as a win, I had hours of fun at very little expense. If I lose the whole $100 (which hardly ever happens) it was an evening of fun.

I as well have not been following the Derby prep races this year. i post below what a poster on Sabre Space posted yesdterday. Poster is Ghost of Dwight Drane...and he is in the horse game. He called out I'llhaveanother last year....he knows the game. i would follow that thread next couple of days as Use waht he says.. Some the remarks about Rosie and Edgar Prado just about some things i said earler in the thread Posted 01 May 2013 - 08:38 PM plenzmd1, on 01 May 2013 - 08:03 PM, said: No way to coach speed as they say. Need some picks GODD, just have not followed this year. Thought I read somewhere Rosie has a horse. My biggest hit ever in a Triple Crown race was when Julie rode Colonial Affair and I had the exacta. Being superstitious, I will always bet a female jockey in a TC race. The other bet I always make is a exacta box with all the jocks who started in MD..so Kent, Edgar, Rosie etc. Has actually paid pretty gos a few times, though I am sure a net loser. Same for trainers. http://www.drf.com/n...erby-field-odds Nice little video on each horse......DRF is by far the best source for info. I'm sticking with my guns.....Revolutionary and It'smyluckyday. Revolutionary only jogged yesterday instead of galloping, which is a bit of a red flag. I hate that Calvin is on him since he will get 2 points shaved off the odds.....but he's probably a good fit. The horse had a crazy trip in a few of his big races and came out looking good. He should handle the chaos fine. It'smyluckyday looks like a Preakness winner to me, but he has blossomed so much the past month after a slightly disappointing race in FL. He was the most talked about horse on the backside in FL early in the year.....and now looks to be moving forward again by his work in the morning. 10-1/15-1 on the morning line, but I think they go off at 8-1/10-1.........box the exacta for $100 on a $2 bet. I would be fine playing either to win. Rosie's horse is ok...and if you like Revolutionary, not stupid to use. I think the pedigree screams shorter..... Prado is on Pletcher's worst shot, but he is having a great rebound year. He almost slipped through the cracks at one point but has been going strong again. He's a really good guy too. Now here is the thread..it started last year so justbgomto page 3 http://forums.sabres...on/page__st__80 Beyers picks here. http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/othersports/kentucky-derby-goldencents-is-obvious-choice-for-good-reason/2013/05/02/7d936776-b329-11e2-bbf2-a6f9e9d79e19_story.html Also, go to twinspires.com and set upman account today. I have beenusing it for several years now.Way easier than OTB, and you will have it for all the races. I have the easy money deposit option right from my bank account, been great Edited May 3, 2013 by plenzmd1
