Buying a hybrid to save money at the pump?

Recommended Posts

Explain. Why is it bothersome? I use it not to disparage... In post #8 and the whole word in post #10... What is your beef. Should I just call it "E." Should I say: "Eviron?" :-P

Like Miner said... I am a simpleton. What is your alternative to fixing pot holes & bridges? My 15 mpg 2006 Jeep is just as heavy and does just as much damage as new hybrid... Where is the money going to come from when infrastructure crumbles. Should there be a trust fund established like they have on the inland waterways? That comes from diesel surcharge that COMMERCIAL cargo vessels pay... about $.19 a gallon that the company burns. With that surcharge, pleasure craft can utilize the infastructure all they want with out paying a service fee... Should something happen like that on the roads between personal vehicles and commercial (trucks) vehicles?

I love it! They are doing damage, just as my gas guzzler is! If not more! Again, these libs literally want to graze on the commons (roads) until there are worn raw...

Again... Maybe certify everybody's odometer on 4/15? Boy that would go over like a lead balloon! LoL

You're on to something there EiI. The time-out must have been good for you. We should just double up taxes on the truckers since we don't want to pay any more. What harm can it do?

Assuming people do not drive their vehicle out of state

How would you account for somebody that lives in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and commutes to work in Hampton Roads?

Oh... I forgot... You can always get a boat. On bad days take the Intercoastal and skirt Dismal Swamp... Only three locks and they are all free. Should only take 8 hours or so... :nana:

The city of Virginia Beach has proposed increasing personal property taxes on boats to increase revenue. As a result, many boat owners are threatening to house their boats in neighboring cities. So by increasing the tax rate they risk losing part of the tax base

Oh he's the stupidest poster on here easy. Unfortunately he is representative of the Federal government. The Tesla electric car company was fined $275,000 by EPA for failing to do emissions testing. Reason they didn't? The car has no exhaust to test. But that's good right EII? More money to fix the same pothole over and over!http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/08/31/epa-fines-tesla-electric-motors-275000/

Prius owners should pay more taxes because they drive too slow and are responsible for millions of lost man/woman hours every year as they cause others who are stuck behind them to be on the roads longer than necessary. One of these days I'm gonna buy a used Prius and convert it to V-8 power just to piss off all the lefties.

I think it's hysterical. A tax that hits mostly the libs. Love it. Can't wait to hear them complain.

They should pay more just because I'm tired of looking at their retarded "Coexist" and "Obama 2012" stickers on their dumb, castrated piece of crap cars

What will the charge be for the the Volt? That rig never needs gas

 orly?

Various claims about how far a Volt can go without engaging the combustion engine aside, hell i'll even be nice and incorrectly say hardly ever. Have you ever read a lawnmower manual? You're not supposed to leave a gallon of gasoline in the engine for an extended peroid without running it. Would you leave several gallons of highly corrosive liquid sitting in the engine of a $40,000 car (and that's just what you paid for it, not counting what the government subsidized)

If you're stupid enough to buy a Volt, I'd say you're stupid enough to do a lot of things.

Hey, I have a Prius, and I neither have bumper stickers nor am smug about it. I bought it because...neat toy.

Side note: I saw a Bentley yesterday with an Obama 2012 bumper sticker on it. My amusement at the masochistic support of Obama by someone who's rich enough to own a Bentley was significantly minor compared to the observation that someone out there is moronic enough to put a bumper sticker on a Bentley. I bet they by Monets at auction and scribble on them with crayon, too.

In CT there is a movement to put tolls back on I-95 30 years after removing them. :wallbash:

I'm betting the liberals won't get too worked up over the environmental impact study on that one.

If it cuts down on the amount of traffic going in and out of NYC, I know people that will be all for it.

Have you removed the word "car" from your vocabulary and replaced with either "hybrid" or "prius" like most owners of said vehicle?

"I was in the prius when this song came on the radio..."

"I need to get my prius washed immediately."

Your question is ridiculous. I would never purchase a 40K car....lol

Funny you ask, I just read the lawmower manual yesterday, could remember what type of oil is took, so had to reference..... I asume the designers of the Volt thought about that issue, but then again, maybe they didn't.

Only because when I say "car." people for some inexplicable reason tend to ask me "You don't have the pickup truck today?"

No, the Prius. I said "car," didn't I? I got so sick of answering that dumbass question, I just default to "Prius" automatically now.

That is what they make fuel stabilizer for. Anyway, modern gasoline is not real crappy like the old days... And a lawnmower is a very small engine. I suppose one will use the fuel up in about a year.

Fuel stabalizers were made for storing an engine for an extended period of time. Not for, well maybe i'll use some gas today or maybe i won't.

Go ahead and leave some gas in your lawnmower from now until fall and let me know how it works out for you.

Gas may not be as crappy today as it was in the old days. But I bet it still won't go down as smooth as a shot of Hennesey

Sorry. I may buy one to shuttle around my palatial 500 acre estate out here in Blackhawk. Nice and quiet so I don't wake up anyone in the servants quarters for those late night activities.

Honestly though, my sis in law has one and she's alright. But when I'm out driving I always seem to run up behind them(and I don't drive fast) behind one of them in the fast lane and they are barely going the speed limit. My sense is they are trying to regulate traffic trying "heroically" to protect the enviorment by limiting my consumption of fossil fuels. When I finally do get by them they always seem to be(I am in the Bay Area) the middle aged grey haired hippy ladies and they almost always are proudly displaying their "Obama/Biden" bumper sticker. STILL!

I recall a Prius owner that I know saying something about a sweet spot where the Prius gets it's best MPG. And it's well below the 55-70 range that normal people drive on the highway. Some even try to avoid the highways and take a longer route so they can maximize the time driving in their sweet spot

I do it all the time! I am so incredibly lazy... I just ditch the mower in the garage in the fall and fire it up in May... Just fired up the same gas in my 17 year old Craftsman (Briggs and Stratton engine) mower! I can't get the thing to blow up! I am looking for an excuse to get a new one! ;-) Same thing with my generator... That does have the stabilzer in though... I fire that up once a month... Never from fall to spring, unless needed...

Really...

Briggs and Stratton Fuel Stabilzer Plus IMO is better than Sta-Bil... That stuff is like "butter" for an engine!

EDIT: What helps with the generator is that it has a fuel shutoff valve. That way you can isolate the fuel line between the carb and tank... IMO...
