nodnarb Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 The nfl really needs to change the damn playoff system to reward good teams and eliminate mediocre teams. imagine the 8-8 rams making it to the superbowl. What a fuggin nightmare for the nfl with such superiority in the AFC sitting on their hands. A true team schitfilter would take the best 12 teams to the playoffs, regardless of conference. If that means only division winners make it from one conference and the AFC has 4 wildcards, so be it.
stuckincincy Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 It would have been bad during those years when the NFC was piddling all over the AFC a few years back... Good luck convincing 16 or whatever NFC team owners, and fans that they should get aced out of the fun and the money of the playoffs for the good of the AFC. This is as unworkable as college playoffs.
sfladave Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 I wouldn't be opposed to all divisional winners and the top 4 wild cards make it, BUT doesn't that take something away from the conference rivalry? But then again maybe the final 64 in NCAA basketball has something right.
crackur Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 who cares.........look what the jets did to the SD........anything is possible
bflo83 Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 The system's fine - the nfc just happens to blow this season. It is weird to see two 8-8 teams win on the road in the wild card round.
Hardy Pyle Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 I think if the Vikes D can play average...they have a real good chance of surprising a few teams. On any given day, the Vikes can beat anyone.
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 The other huge problem created by taking the best teams regardless of conference is tie breakers. Every team plays the three other teams in their division, plus four in another divison, plus two more in the other two divisions for a total of 9 out of 15 within their conference. In the other conference, you only play 4 out of 16. If the Bills were tied with the Vikings for the last spot, You can throw out head to head, division, and conference tie breakers. So it would come down to common games. The Bills and Vikes both played Jax and Seattle a total of two games. Two games would then determine who goes and who stays home. This year was a wield one, but I'll vote to keep things as they are as the alternatives could produce chaos.
