DC Tom Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 I'm not disagreeing, but to go further with this sort of thinking, should the Bills implement a system to limit Spikes', Clements' and Fletcher's sometimes ridiculous celebrations? I wouldn't mind...they annoy me. My best memories of Thurman involve him running into the end zone and handing the ball to the ref as though to say "Yeah...I scored again." But that's just me...I prefer understatement. But even so...I think there's something fundamentally different in Spikes', Fletcher's, et al., celebration than what Moss did. They celebrate plays. They don't direct their stupid antics at anyone. Moss taunted the stadium. See, I agree that these celebrations are petty, completely immature and just downright stupid. And I also agree that if there is going to be a fine, it ought to come from the head coach, because if he wants players that don't do those sort of things, he ought to show it. The League ought to stay completely out of it, in my opinon. The point is, I don't like what Moss did, but I like less how overblown these sort of things become. Players all over the league do this sort of crap, just not as elaborate maybe. At least Moss did it after scoring a touchdown rather than making a Special Teams tackle like some of our Bills have been known to do. So, what are we punishing Moss for? Has he done worse than what Takeo Spikes does? Are Moss's antics worse than Spikes' kung fu dance? 200298 We basically agree on everything - Moss was stupid, but the issue's overblown. I do think what Moss did was "worse" than Spikes' or Fletcher's spastic dances...but that's a matter of shading of "bad", not whole tones. The bottom line is: more than a few of the athletes we're discussing haven't yet matured into adults - most 20-somethings still act stupid and think it's "cool" even without being coddled and pampered for their athleticism for most of their lives. Why should pro ball players be any different? Because they're "role models"? Please...anyone who chooses a football player as a role model simply because they're a football player deserves the role model they get. Oh, certainly. But I think TV is the biggest potentially controllable factor. Not necessarily TV, but more appropriately "media coverage". I've seen three entire print articles dedicated to Moss' attitude, and three whole sentences dedicated to his performance, and I don't even want to imagine what kind of a sh---storm syndicated radio is indulging in over this. Christ, imagine how much good it would do Randy Moss if he got a third the coverage for his clowning around and three times as much for his gritty performance in schooling Al Harris with an injury that would bench most players? If the media wants Randy Moss to act like an adult, maybe they should stop reinforcing his childishness and focus on his adult traits instead.
plenzmd1 Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 I strongly disagree. I would never, never want Moss on the Bills. I would love to have Ray Lewis on the Bills. Huge difference between the two 199650 Yes, ones been accused of murder and convicted of obstructing justice, and the other walks off the field with TWO seconds to play and an onside kick coming and FAKE mooning a stadium. I sure know I would rather have to explain to my son why one is a jerk and should not act that way, but he can make plays so he is still on our team. However, trying to explain to the kid the other was accused of MURDER , but he can play and is now doing commercials and on the front of one of the most popular vid games, help me with that explanation. Give me Moss anytime over that gangster. Anyway, Lewis overrated lol
Gavin in Va Beach Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 What's with all this Buckwheat nonsense? I thought Moss looked more like Sideshow Bob...or even more like the Rubberband Man from the Office Max commercials... 200226 Rubberband Man would be a good fit for the Bills...
IDBillzFan Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 What's with all this Buckwheat nonsense? I thought Moss looked more like Sideshow Bob...or even more like the Rubberband Man from the Office Max commercials... 200226 Looks like Buckwheat to me. O-tay!
IndyMark Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 I initially said no, however, I would vote yes. For several reasons, none so much as the fact we have had "!@#$s" on the Bills before. In fact, Marv or Bill Polian were kinda susceptible to picking up "questionable" characters if it might improve the football team. Does anyone remember Reggie Rogers? While it was not a huge trend it has happened before and really what has Moss done that is that big of a deal? This is where sports enthusiasts tend to go overboard. Randy Moss is not, should not, and will not be a role model to my children so what do I care what he does on the football field? Or anyone else for that matter? He only embarrasses himself. Geez, Leonard Little is still playing. Bruce Smith certainly was not perfect. I like to keep professional sports in perspective. It is not a big deal until the media goes ballistic and throws everything he does in our faces all the time. Is this really that big of an issue? Randy Moss garners national headlines because he acts like an idiot. Big deal. He didn't commit a crime did he? Move on.
Fezmid Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 Big deal. He didn't commit a crime did he? Move on. 200531 He ran over a traffic cop a couple of years ago. And blamed the traffic cop for not letting him turn where he wanted to turn. And then called her names and refused to appologize. Even if you take away his on-field antics, he's still pond scum. At least TO is just a jerk on the field (as far as we know). CW
Bob4Bills Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 No. Given his past, if he wasn't such an athletic talent, he'd be doing time by now.
