birdog1960 Posted April 23, 2013 Author Posted April 23, 2013 will you be camping? probably most convenient for vending but if not, roanoke is probably your best bet. this place http://primland.com is very close, amazing but very pricey. enjoy!
boyst Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Merlefest is awesome. The biggest mix of Yupy city folk, hipster d-bags, country bumpkins and rural thugs.
The Poojer Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Sounds like a Drive-By Truckers concert!!! Merlefest is awesome. The biggest mix of Yupy city folk, hipster d-bags, country bumpkins and rural thugs.

Thanks - that looks like a great place to stay on a SW VA road trip but will not be able to do it this time. There is separate camping and parking provided for FloydFest vendors and we will have to stay on-site. Her place will probably be open 18 hrs/day. Music until ~3 am and morning activities start at 8. She will probably be bringing along a staff of 7-10 high school and college girls to park and camp at the vendor site.

The Poojer Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 dear god those are some serious line-ups....here's my local festival line up so far...i volunteer every year, plus i am a member so i get lot's of free passes into the festival http://xpn.org/xponential-music-festival/2013 You're probably thinking that's ridiculous but you'd be so wrong. Thanks - that looks like a great place to stay on a SW VA road trip but will not be able to do it this time. Mr Info Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 (edited) i just went to the hot tuna website to check the tour dates...jorma is kind of a dick.... I am a big Jorma fan - Tuna & Airplane stuff but his solo work (Quah, Christmas, Blue Country Heart, etc.) as well...both acoustic & electric. I have seen him many times and other than a backstage knife fight at a show in Oswego, I have enjoyed them all. We will just have to disagree about his creative ownership. Some artists are willing to openly share their stuff (i.e., Dead) and others like to maintain control such as Jorma (though it wasn't always this way). That's the artist's prerogative - I am only concerned with the quality of the music or the performance. Edited April 24, 2013 by Mr Info

Pete Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 This summer, Bob Dylan, Wilco and My Morning Jacket will tour together. Funny, I have been on a bid Dylan and Wilco kick. Tremendous billing

Thanks - two times I had trips planned there to see shows and had to cancel but I do plan to get there sometime. I don't have the talent for a guitar camp though I have read a lot of good feedback from attendees at Fur Peace. I could jam along on harmonica but that's about it.
