Ennjay Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 My most clear impression of Marrone so far is that like Belichick, he's absolutely mastered the art of talking yet saying nothing. Chuck Knox was great at that too. Anybody else remember?
San Jose Bills Fan Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Well, I may be ignorant regarding how rookie contracts work, but I am going off the assumption that the contract a rookie QB drafted at 8 will receive, may end up at higher than what you want to pay a backup qb. Also, the front office may be worried about the perception if they use a # 8 for someone that they dump after 1 season in order to take another shot next year. Tannehill (a QB) was the 8th pick last year. He signed a four-year contract with the Dolphins worth approximately $12.684 million, with an option for a 5th year. That is more than most teams pay their backup QBs although if your starter is also making about the same (in the scenario of first round QBs in consecutive years) the total number for these two QBs is pretty low compared to the $15-20+ million per year the top starting QBs are making now. Chuck Knox was great at that too. Anybody else remember? Oh yeah. Knox was one of the early practitioners of "Coach Speak." He pioneered the form.
