Billsrhody Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 (edited) Just wanted to visualize it in depth chart form. "Biggest needs" in red "Could be improved" in blue "Solid starter" in green "We're set" in black DEFENSE CB DE DT DE CB McKelvin Dareus Troup Williams Gilmore OLB ILB ILB OLB Williams Sheppard Lawson Anderson S S Searcy Byrd OFFENSE WR LT LG C RG RT TE WR WR Easley Glenn Snow Wood Urbik Pears Chandler Graham Johnson QB Kolb RB Spiller So our needs (in my opinion): Tier 1 QB WR G ILB CB Tier 2 T S DT WR I'd like to see all 5 tier 1 needs addressed in the draft at some point, but I would understand taking a better value at one of the blue or green positions instead of reaching. When I look at the roster like this I realize that we do have some serious talent at some key positions. We need to add a few more starter quality pieces (and a QB that can play) over the next 2 drafts and I really we could have a good team. Edited April 18, 2013 by Billsrhody
Bangarang Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 (edited) I'm putting Glenn in green, minimum. He's our franchise LT imo. Other than that I'd say it looks prett good. Edited April 18, 2013 by Bangarang
Cash Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Based on Nix's comments at the draft luncheon, it sounds like the LB starters will be Lawson, Sheppard (for now), and Bradham, with maybe Mark Anderson at a hybrid DE/LB position. I don't think we'll have both Mario & Anderson playing alongside 3 traditional D-lineman in anything but goal line sets. Also, I think it's highly unlikely that Troup plays in front of Branch in any scenario, whether we start a true NT or not.
NewEra Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 QB is our biggest need. It will be until we get a very good one. I'd say WR and LB are next. We need 1-2 legitimate WRs and (IMO) a middle LB. I think we're set with Bradham and Lawson. When we play 3 DL, Mario, Anderson and moats can all rush the passer from the OLB spot. Shepp in the middle is the weak link. Maybe it was our scheme, but shepp looked horrid last year. Maybe pettines D will help him improve. If not, we need an upgrade badly. LG is an obvious hole. Cb/SS and TE should also be upgraded.
KD in CA Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 S S Searcy Byrd We're not anywhere near set until Byrd is signed to a LT contract.
KeisterHollow Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Still - we also have Williams at SS - which might be a strength (although, we'll know by draft time how set they think they are there, since it is a "deep" class). I have to agree on the whole. I think if we add starter talent at QB, WR, TE, and ILB, and depth at G, CB, maybe a big NT, we can be competitive this year. It's not too much to ask, IMO, from Nix with this uniquely deep class, where good talent evaluators should be able to find starters on a roster like ours into the 4th round. And, there's still FA - with guys like Moore at G who could get us by for a year. We can field a good team this year - at the least, a team that is getting better, on the rise, fun to watch.
