KollegeStudnet Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) Just had a flashback of being a fan of Buffalo sports after reading this article.... sounds Rigas'esque "Two Pilot Flying J sales executives pleaded guilty today to federal charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud for their role in sending fraudulent rebate checks "to certain targeted Pilot customers,'' the charges said." http://www.cleveland...lot_flying.html Basically, Haslam has been denying his involvement. But, an employees recording tells a different story, that Haslam had his hands in fraud. " While Haslam has denied involvement in or knowledge of the rebate fraud scam, Ralenkotter, Judd, and others may testify differently; already, at least one Pilot Flying J employee has said while being secretly recorded that Haslam was aware of the rebate fraud scam." http://profootballta...ederal-charges/ Past links: "FBI agents have blocked the entrance at the Knoxville headquarters of Pilot Flying J, the truck stop business owned by the family of Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and his brother, Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam." http://www.cleveland...uarters_of.html http://profootballta...pilot-flying-j/ http://www.wate.com/...-j-headquarters http://profootballta...for-the-browns/ http://www.cleveland..._jimmy_h_1.html -Much love and prayers go out to those in New England! boyst Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 That means...they're already f'd. If the FBI shows up you are not innocent.
KollegeStudnet Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 That means...they're already f'd. If the FBI shows up you are not innocent. Tis' true. As a Bills fan, I feel for our rustbelt Browns fans.
ny33 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Theories anyone? I got nothin' Reportedly, IRS agents were also present at the property.
KollegeStudnet Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Dagnabit, they're guilty. You mean, "dadgummit"?
San Jose Bills Fan Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Reportedly, IRS agents were also present at the property. You know when I heard how he made his fortune, it struck me as odd that a person could make billions from truck stops. I guess he'd be too smart to commit tax evasion so maybe money laundering?
KollegeStudnet Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Reportedly, IRS agents were also present at the property. just read that also... Theories anyone? I got nothin' smells like possible tax evasion and/or bank fraud... Similar to what we had to endure in the early 2000's http://articles.marketwatch.com/2005-10-07/news/30989392_1_adelphia-founder-tax-fraud-tax-evasion
CSBill Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Reportedly, IRS agents were also present at the property. Must not have paid his taxes, but he still has until midnight.
KollegeStudnet Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 You know when I heard how he made his fortune, it struck me as odd that a person could make billions from truck stops. I guess he'd be too smart to commit tax evasion so maybe money laundering? Unless, he pimps the lot lizards! Same here... Drive into any Pilot Flying J's and experience a place that feels nothing like a multi-billion dollar business
VanCity Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Feel for Browns fans. Those guys are as down on their luck as us. Hope this gets cleared up fast for their sake. They actually could come out of the draft as the second best team in their division. Pitts and Cincy are big question marks and, despite their FA and retirement losses, the Ravens are still the Champs until someone unseats them
chris heff Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Theories anyone? I got nothin' Searching for a QB?
JPS Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Cleveland is like Buffalo's cousin. It sucks for their fans. First Chudzinski, now this.
PIZ Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Will they have to give up picks? Bringing a bad name to the NFL.
boyst Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Theories anyone? I got nothin' I know a little bit, like microfraction about stuff like this... and all I can believe is that it is something to do with finances. If it was drugs or something it would still tie back to finances - perhaps money laundry type scheming... The Feds come prepared and deep, quite intimidating to see them in their outfits even when they're just standing their.
BringBackFergy Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Theories anyone? I got nothin' Maybe they've been selling black market beef jerkey for years at Flying J's and it's finally catching up to them. I thought at first it had something to do with the bombing today...but that would be awfully quick on law enforcement's part. Has to be some tax evasion issue.
Mike in Syracuse Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 If the Feds are there someone is going to prison. Shortly after college I had the opportunity to go on some raids with Federal Marshals. These guys don't show up on shoddy info and federal prosecutors rarely lose.
