Sub. Buffalo, NY

actually it could be Sub or Hoagie. Depends on what is on it.

Sub = Lettuce, Tomato, Onion (Raw)

Hoagie = Pepper and Onions (Grilled)

Interesting. So is heat/cooking the differentiator? If I get an Italian Mixed with raw lettuce, tomato and onion ... it would be a sub. I get the grilled peppers and onions thing.

But what about a hot meatball, sausage or chicken parm sub?

I call those "hot subs."

I would also call those hot subs. Like a steak and cheese for example. You can get a steal and cheese sub with lettuce, onion, tomato or a hoagie with grilled peppers and onions.

Now that I think about it, I'm not really sure which term they use out here in Boston. I know I've seen "sub" at a few places, but I don't know how widespread that is.

Isn't "Yankees Suck," all they know how to say in Boston?
