26CornerBlitz Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 @JasonLaCanfora Chargers are releasing LB Takeo Spikes today - 2 time Pro Bowler and tackling machine intends to play a 15th season Love the way this guy plays the game. Hope he gets a shot to get a ring.
boyst Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 One or the biggest mistakes letting him go. P.Williams, Clements, Fletcher join that list.
BillsGuyInMalta Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Meh. I liked Takeo when he was here but injuries have left him a shell of the dominant force he used to be. He still piles up the tackles, but lets remember his last Pro Bowl appearance was with us...8 years ago.
boyst Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Is Jeff Posey still looking for a job too? he tees off with Eddie Robinson at 930. Maybe we could get two solid vets!
JPS Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Is he still in the league? Wow. A great competitor, a very good career, but nah.
Fingon Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 He's been below average since his Achilles surgery. Pass.
Al Cowlings Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I would love it. He's still got game left. Stop it, please.
RyanC883 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I'd sign him. (1) he is better than anyone we currently have at LB, who is ...... (2) he would come cheap, and signing him does not preclude us from finding a starter via FA or the Draft. He could be a 1-2 down player or backup. The guy still has it.
Nanker Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I wish they'd take a look at Eric Winston. Former Texan RT, played last year for KC. This probably telegraphs the Chefs are going OT @ #1.
atlbillsfan1975 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Guys he is old and slow. I like the guy a lot and loved what he did for Buffalo while he was here. A positive guy who always brought it. But i watched a couple of Chargers games this year and keyed in on him because i like him. He is very pedestrian. We just let go of an aging LB. Spikes has no direct connection with Pettine or his D style, so he would be learning just like younger guys. The only over the hill LB i would remotely be interested in is Bart Scott. If Scott and Pettine are tight this would make a lot of sense. Scott would be very useful helping the younger guys learning and getting set.
peterpan Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Id hire him just to be an inspirational speaker for this heartless gutless team. PS: I always liked Winston too.
DDD Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 An Achilles tendon tear has ruined many careers. Spikes was never the same player after the injury but worked hard and contributed to a solid NFL career. Sam Cowart was not so lucky.
Fan in San Diego Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 He is still pretty good, I've watched him a few times here in San Diego. We should look at him, he got his game back on last year.
KollegeStudnet Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 If he did sign with the Bills...he would give his all to get this team to the playoffs
Bring Back Kelly Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 We need linebackers. He could do better than Merriman. That is for sure
C.Biscuit97 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 One or the biggest mistakes letting him go. P.Williams, Clements, Fletcher join that list. You can't put Spikes on that list. He had a major injury and wasn't worth what he was paid. That said, he's reinvented himself as a solid ILB and I love the guy. I'd welcome him back if the price was right. But for some reason, he just can't make the playoffs, no matter where he goes.
ganesh Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 His best season as a Pro was with the Bills: In Buffalo, Spikes had his best seasons as a pro. He was a two-time Pro Bowler and earned a first-team All NFL honor in 2004. In that season he recorded 99 total tackles, three sacks, five interceptions, two touchdowns, 18 pass deflections and four forced fumbles. I don't believe any of the bills LBs since Takeo's departure has that kind of presence in the middle of the defense. Thanks for your time Takeo.
