Vetriano Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Thinking about going on a camping trip with my 9 year old daughter. Would like to show her niagra falls. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to space out the drive? Any suggestions on things we should see? I am thinking hopefully we could catch a drivein movie.

If you feel like going north of Albany at all, Saratoga Spa State park is really cool There is a drive in movie theater in Hyde park NY (Just north of Poughkeepsie) I lived there last year and went a few times. Niagara Falls is awesome, If you a passport, the Canadian side has many shops and attractions that could be cool for a 9 year old
San Jose Bills Fan Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 How much time will you have and about how far off course are you willing to go? Also, what hobbies do you guys share?

I've driven the NYS Thruway several dozen times, easily. And the Albany-Syracuse segment is the most painfully boring stretch of highway I have ever driven.

And the Albany-Syracuse segment is the most painfully boring stretch of highway I have ever driven. Two of my friends ended up in the hospital with e. coli from a diner somewhere in the middle of the state (road trip). The girl ended up with a 2 week stay in the hospital. I suggest this because not only was it mere months before their wedding, and the female was ecstatic about the rapid weight loss, but they also ended up being able to buy a car outright with the settlement. Total win/win. Well, more like win/puke/win. Actually, it's win/nonstopexplosivediarrhea/win, but whatever. OP, I'll PM you the name of the restaurant so you can add it to your itinerary.

I agree that it's boring but I take it you've never driven through northern Texas or the the Grapevine through central California. Boring! To the OP poster I agree with the Finger Lakes especially with a 9 year old. More wine for you!!
DC Tom Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I agree that it's boring but I take it you've never driven through northern Texas or the the Grapevine through central California. Boring! Or Kansas or Nebraska - drives so boring, they kill people.
DrDawkinstein Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Or Kansas or Nebraska - drives so boring, they kill people. Lets just say anything between NYC and LA and be done with it.
Just Jack Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Drive in's... http://driveintheater.com/drivlist.htm Letchworth would be cool. If you're near Rochester, check out the Strong National Musuem Of Play. ...yeah, I got nuthin'. I've driven the NYS Thruway several dozen times, easily. And the Albany-Syracuse segment is the most painfully boring stretch of highway I have ever driven. The only thing I can think of in that stretch for a 9 year old would be Howe Caverns.
bowery4 Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Corning Glass. The falls at Letchworth. Kodak Museum if in Rochester. Look it up on the internets?
Marv's Neighbor Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Take Rt 17 and go to the Roscoe Diner. And the Corning Glass Works.
mead107 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Side track to Cooperstown? Lake George, great escape, camping. I take it you are doing this in the summer?
ExiledInIllinois Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Screw the car... Take the trip by boat! ;-) :-)

boyst Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Screw the car... Take the trip by boat! ;-) :-) Was a dream of my brothers and a friend of theirs to do Toledo-Windsor-Cleveland-Buffalo-Brockport by boat, possible Toronto. They never got the chance, but it would have been freaking awesome.

The Comet from Crystal Beach is at Great Escape outside Lake George. Try Watkins Glen. The Corning Glass Factory is good, too. And you need to ride on the Maid of the Mist.
Chef Jim Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 check with Chef Jim, he has a notebook full of suggestions and ideas... Actually I do. None of which I got here of course.
