Mr. WEO Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 right, and even if true, i think many will agree that his behavior (if it matches public perception) increased risk of complication even if it didnt directly cause any complications. the big question mark is how much was actual alcohol consumption and how much is him being an overgrown child that likes to jump around and look drunk. generally im not going to beat him up too badly, but there couldve been some dumb choices along the way even if they didnt cause the current issues. This is a surgical complication and nothing more, I think. It's infected hardware. Usually the infection is introduced at the time of surgery. Rarely would blood borne bacteria from another, unrelated infection seed the plate and cause his current problem. It's a well known risk of the surgery. Brady had postop infection also reqiring subsequent procedures to treat it--and there was no hardware in his knee. The alcohol is totally unrelated in Gronk's case. Drinking didn't cause the infection, but he probably did something else really stupid that did. Like invite some 3rd rate puss rock/R&B band like LMFAO to play at as his surgery or have all his douche bag buddies fist bump to the rhythmic beat of his ekg or something. Now that I haven't ruled out.

San Jose Bills Fan Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Well lookie there… Gronk cancels his Vegas trip. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/05/19/gronkowski-canceled-vegas-trip/
bbb Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Interesting. Maybe it was all a plot by the man to curtail my drinking. LOL - I guess it's a good thing I took the Gronk approach! Well lookie there… Gronk cancels his Vegas trip. http://profootballta...led-vegas-trip/ Holy crap - I wonder how many strippers will never go to college now??
eball Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 What do the most educated guessers believe is the probability Gronk is ready by Sep. 8?
BringBackFergy Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 What do the most educated guessers believe is the probability Gronk is ready by Sep. 8? "Ready by September 8" for what? Football? Loaning his shirt to a porn star?? Breakdancing? No way he plays football on Sept. 8th...his muscles in that arm are shot and the back thing is something they need to be very careful with...I think Dorkington suggested above that a year off makes sense. I wouldn't be surprised if that happens.
C.Biscuit97 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Wait a second. A guy who missed his entire last year in college with a back injury might have problems staying healthy. I actually love the meatheadness of Gronk and don't root for injury. But it does seem like guys who are almost too muscle bound struggle more with injuries.
NoSaint Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 (edited) What do the most educated guessers believe is the probability Gronk is ready by Sep. 8? my medical expertise is limited to reading injury reports and paying attention to how the situations then play out.... and based on that, ill put us at nearly a coin flip on this one. if everything goes perfect, it sounds like he will be pretty close to 100%, and as a vet he knows the offense inside and out so missing camp shouldnt kill him. i think theres a good chance he suits up week 1. any hiccups and its going to be tough on him. that said.... i dont know how long he will last even if he does go right out of the gate... injuries are piling up fast and hes a big physical guy. might go the way of shockey from here. while he doesnt have quite the same type of rebellious attitude they are both guys that loved big hits, and have been known to be a little out there with their partying. gronks just more child-like and lovable while shockey had a bit more of the screw you attitude but that aside.... they have a similar resume coming together. Mr. WEO Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 What do the most educated guessers believe is the probability Gronk is ready by Sep. 8? Likely 2 more arm operations--one to take out the hardware, a second to put new hardware back in. 6 months. If there is a back procedure in there, shouldn't change things tiemwise.

Drop Kick Flutie Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 From what I here he'll miss OTAs and mini-camp and be ready for the start of training camp, the back surgery is on the same issue he had prior to last years NE @ BUF, so it's relativily minor and the timetable is the same as the arm so shouldn't be a setback. All reports are that it will be 10 weeks, allowing him to suit up in late July.
Drop Kick Flutie Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 UPDATE: Rob Gronkowski out of surgery, infection has cleared profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/05/20/rob-gronkowski-out-of-surgery-infection-has-cleared/
Doc Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Did they replace the plate or will he have to go back to have one re-inserted? And the more concerning thing is his back starting to act-up again.
In-A-Gadda-Levitre Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Did they replace the plate or will he have to go back to have one re-inserted? looks like they put a new plate in after deciding that the infection was gone NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported that the star tight end had new plates put into his troublesome left forearm, and doctors have determined the infection in the arm is gone, according to a source. No further surgery is planned at this time.
