BuffBill Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Whoa!!! Not saying I want him anymore but he's been pretty productive even at 35+ Just very Suprised he's been cut. I'm thinking the Vikings are looking to make major deals this FA period. Maybe pick Moss up as well to finish off his career. $7.5+ million against the cap and refused to take a pay cut is why he was released. There will be a market for him but don't think he will make that much at his age.
KD in CA Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 One of my all-time favorite Bills. If we're going to sign a veteran stopgap as a #3 for a year or so, I'd rather it be Antoine Winfield than Drayton Florence. Yes to all of that.
kasper13 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 The Bills have been a team full of stop gaps for well over a decade. Why would a 36 year old player who is near the end of his career ever sign here? He wouldn't take a pay cut. Why would he take a pay cut to come back here? No chance.

Because players weigh at least ten different things when deciding on a new team, and every player's order of importance and weight they put on each factor is slightly different: Money. Super Bowl or Playoff Potential, job available on that team (potential to be star/starter/backup, etc), City, Franchise, Defense played (or offense), Coaching (both HC and Coordinator), Teammates, their family's preference, history with that team or area.
apuszczalowski Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 If he declined a pay cut with the vikings when making $7.5 mil, what makes anyone think he would come to Buffalo and be a "Stop Gap" #3 corner for them?

finhater Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 He would def be an upgrade in the slot over Rogers or Florence for a year or two . Id luv him back ..
8-8 Forever? Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Amen brother. Still miss seeing the 26CornerBlitz. So do I. The LeBeau years as DC were the best we've seen in 15 years. All garbage other than that period 9-10 years ago.

peterpan Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 @ProFootballWkly Per @TomPelissero, the #Vikings just released CB Antoine Winfield. Will be 36 in June. Had 101 tackles, 12 PDs, 3 INTs last season. He was clearly too old when the Bills let him go years ago
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Crazy but Winfield was prob with the bills for 4 years and with the vikes for 11. He probably has no memory of the bills, yet we can't forget the guy.
dave mcbride Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 This is the write up from rotoworld. Pretty impressive season, no? good find. I'm quite impressed.
Bill from NYC Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Salary. Thanks. I suppose he feel that he can get a deal which including the bonus, pays more than this in year 1.
BillsBackersChicago Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 bring his career full circle, bring baby home to where it all began!

I suppose we can go into the year with Brooks as the 3rd corner, but adding a vet for a couple years is how teams fill out their roster. Keeping money and whether he'd sign here aside, who wouldn't prefer Winfield?
Tcali Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 any 36 yr old CB is nuts to turn down any money to play in the NFL...i bet its a bit more complex than just that --and that he would barely make above what he was guaranteed. I doubt they gave him a real offer. 36 is just ancient.
ganesh Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Seconded. I balked when I saw his age but seriously, those numbers from last year are phenomenal It's certainly worth considering, especially as his price would likely be on the lower end and I would immediately feel better about our CB situation. The Vikings cut him because he was due 6.5M. I don't think he is coming to the Bills to play at Veteran Minimum !!
