aristocrat
if we take a guard it will continue the cycle of drafting a replacement for a player we already had. we need a lb or wr at the top no other positions please.
Endless Ike
A guard at 8 is bonkers, sorry Melvin. I seriously can't even remember the last time a player who was an OG in the NCAA was drafted in the top 10. EDIT: just spent 10 minutes looking, looks like 1997, when the the Saints drafted Chris Naeole at 10 overall. bobgonzo
So, what about guards taken in the top five and who was picked highest? By my count there have been 12 (11*) guards taken in the top 5 since the NFL draft began in 1936. In reverse chronological order, they are: Leonard Davis, 2001, Pick 2 *Jonathan Ogden, 1996, Pick 4 Bill Fralic, 1985, Pick 2 Chris Hinton, 1983, Pick 4 Ken Huff, 1975, Pick 3 John Hicks, 1974, Pick 3 John Hannah, 1973, Pick 4 Tom Mack, 1966, Pick 2 **Randy Beisler, 1966, Pick 4 John Niland, 1966, Pick 5 Fritz Barzilauskas, 1947, Pick 3 Rudy Mucha, 1941, Pick

BoozeCruise
Good teams don't pick Guards early. I wouldn't take one in the first 3 rounds this year. Let's get a few of those guys who can move the ball down the field. Anyways, I think Pears could kick in there if Hairston steals his RT job in camp.
