Beerball Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Buying the Bills: “If I were rich and somewhat younger, and lived in Buffalo, I’d buy them in a second. But I’m not taking on new things that my heirs will want to wrestle with. There would have been a time when I would have been very tempted.” In case you were wondering.
ganesh Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 How about a new stadium named after him ? With an all-expense-paid Buffet!
smuvtalker Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I love the "if I were rich" quote. Ditto. Thought that was hilarious.....
Billybuc Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Isn't Richard (often called Rich) Warren's younger brother!?!? Now it all makes sense!
first_and_ten Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Why would an 82 year old buy a professional sports franchise?
filthymcnasty08 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Why would an 82 year old buy a professional sports franchise? Youth movement!
White Linen Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I love the "if I were rich" quote. I think he meant, if I was someone rich, younger, and lived in Buffalo I would buy the team.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 buffet would be a horrendous owner. You think Ralph is cheap? buffet would be ten times worse.
Dean Cain Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Buffet is worth 53 times the value of the Bills, wish he'd bought the Bills when he bought the News in 1977.
B-Large Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Buffet is a value investor... he took one look at that roster and realized he didn't have the heart for an underperfomring asset at this stage of the game...
yungmack Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 (edited) A suggestion: instead of wasting time discussing Buffett buying the Bills, I recommend Bills fans buy Buffett. Anyone around here who invests, especially younger guys, put a huge chunk of your IRA, 401k etc. into Bershire-Hathaway B shares. They're a bargain right now (well, relatively speaking) and you have Warren Buffett essential doing your stock picking for you. BTW, another billionaire who is rumored to be very interested in buying the Bills is LA-based, Buffalo-born bond phenom Jeffrey Gundlach. Keep your eye on him as the potential savior. Mr. WEO Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 From Morningstar: "Warren Buffett has typically looked to acquire firms that have consistent earnings power, generate above-average returns on capital, have little to no debt, and have .......solid management teams. " Ohhhh!---we were so close! " the biggest hurdle facing Berkshire will be its ability to consistently find deals that not only add value but also are large enough to be meaningful. The other major issue facing the company is the longevity of Buffett and managing partner Charlie Munger, both of whom are octogenarians." ......and the problem is??
The Big Cat Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I love the "if I were rich" quote. Ditto. Thought that was hilarious..... I think he meant, if I was someone rich, younger, and lived in Buffalo I would buy the team. ha, I too had to read and re-read that...
boyst Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 He would not spend a dime on this team. Im happy with this. Id rather have a Dan Snyder or Mark Cuban then an entrapeneur or strict business man
bonechiller Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 The new owner has to be a fan of the team. Yeah, like Pagula? He's done wonders with Sabres so far!
3rdnlng Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Yeah, like Pagula? He's done wonders with Sabres so far! Yes, both the Sabres and the Bills need owners who don't want to spend any money.
