you mean if spiller "demands." Commands suggests he deserves it and can command that salary.

Baseball blah blah blah baseball blah blah

And did you ever notice that it should be the Oakland "As" and not the "A's," since an apostrophe "s" has never, in the history of English, made something plural?

But to the substance, yes, we will use analytics to get bigger, stronger, and cheaper, kinda like the Seahawks have been doing. Or like the Buccaneers thought they were doing with the whole "youngry" thing. And notice its "Buccaneers" and not "Buccaneer's"

(and yes, I am aware that the Oakland baseball team has trademarked the term "A's" instead of "As" and that they realize they are stuck with a grammatically incorrect term. Much has been written about it. But its still dumb. But cf: http://thegrammarvandal.wordpress.com/2007/07/27/apostrophe-for-the-oakland-as/)

I don't understand. A's is short for Athletics so the apostrophe stands for a contraction not making it plural. Are you telling me it should be cant dont wont etc.?

Teams move diferently. There are plenty of free agents available. Indy dropped 80 million and are done. Others are bidding their time. Let the fever pass and sign rationally. Don't be surprised if 3 or 4 more guys get signed. Adam Schefter said this is now a buyers market.

From Press Coverage....

The Bills have gotten worse since free agency began Tuesday. They've lost more than they've gained. We've heard myriad reports about how they courted new players who've signed elsewhere. Their quarterback questions have grown.

It appears the Bills are trying for other free agents but are striking out.

doomed

Every time someone expresses fear someone else replies by saying "doomed." While I do agree that bills fans do tend to overreact, we have been doomed in Buffalo. The bills have gone well over decade without making playoffs. When people post "doomed" they shouldn't do it with a sarcastic tone, because we have been doomed.

Hmmm I guess some names would have been nice. I've heard Devito and Delanie Walker were courted by the Bills to some degree but not much else.

Analytics. Get used to it. Big name money players will leave, including Spiller if he commands a big payday.

Oakland A's are the model. Guys like Miguel Tejada, the Giambi Brothers and Barry Zito all left for big contracts. That's the way the Bills are going to handle it now. Be prepared.

If you don't know much about moneyball, and especially don't have a clue how the Bills are employing analytics (which do not = moneyball), please refrain from opining on the matter. Btw, only Giambi's Yankee contract doesn't look like a mistake among those free agent losses. The A's were also good at drafting projectable talents and took fewer risks. They also had to adjust when they realized their models were downplaying the importance of defense. They also have gone back to incorporating more of a balance of scouting AND analytics.

The analytics were and are only ever about locating undervalued assets so that you can compete with teams with greater resources - whether that's the allure of s bigger market, team budgets, a new stadium, or whatever else. It isn't just about operating on the cheap. It's why Boston hired Bill James to help them get the most bang for their buck.

The A's were simply early in the game and an interesting test case for being able to pull it off on the cheap. In part they did this because their division rivals each had flaws. The least flawed rival - the Angels - ended up being their primary roadblock.

If Buffalo is to succeed with analytics layered over their existing operation (which may itself be the problem), it will be because it helps them see things in players that the market isn't putting a premium on. Consider this before spitting out a very narrow interpretation of what analytics means in sports.

Tom Mantzouranis@themantz

On this day six years ago, the Vikings traded for Daunte Culpepper to the Dolphins and the Saints signed Drew Brees. Pretty significant day.

This is after Brees failed the Dolphins Physical.

The Bills had JP Losman and were all set at QB. :wallbash:

It's been a while but I swear that we reached out to Brees at the start of free agency and he told us in no uncertain terms that he was all set with Buffalo.

Everyone calm down. We added a solid piece in Lawson, and the draft is deep at all positions of need except QB. (even there, I think we can get a nice second round pick). I think we nab a TE in FA, and Dickerson surprises people. A lot of the more successful franchises like Green Bay and Pittsburgh are generally quiet during FA.

Oh sure you can correct punctuation, but I get jumped on for pointing out that "prolly" is not a word.

www.nfl.com.

Has a great tracker on the right side. Still a ton of FA talent left that would be able to help the Bills at a reasonable price.

Indeed...for a team that's not close to winning a Superbowl, this is the best strategy. Get good, solid players at value prices, then get your cornerstones in the draft.

Okay then. Please outline for me how the Bills are employing analytics. Use facts and cite your sources. Here's a pen.

Be prepared for people to contest your ideas if you back them up with next to nothing. I've provided context, take it for what you will.

I had a nice long reply typed out, but I don't have it in me anymore. I'm tired, and have bigger fish to fry than our views on analytics. So I'll just say farewell to you personally RuntheDamnBall and bid you good luck and best wishes.
