Mark Vader Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Yep. You have to pick and choose where to spend your money. We are going to pay Byrd and Wood. Steelers are paying Ben, Antonio Brown. It's not like we are letting every good player we draft just leave. You are sure of this? Wood's injury history might make the Bills think twice about re-signing him. As for Byrd, there is no excuse that he should not be signed to a long-term contract.
Kirby Jackson Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Vasquez to the Broncos so you can cross him off as the replacement
Bills of Boston Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Broncos signed OG Louis Vasquez to a four-year, $23.5 million contract. Source: Mike Garafolo on Twitter
BuffaloBillsMagic1 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 a no 1 pick we develop . plays good and leaves again. deja vu all overagain....
Mark Vader Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 @jwyattsports The deal for Andy Levitre with the #Titans is for 6 years, and worth $46.8 million. ($7.8M/yr) PTR The Bills could not afford this?
TallskiWallski83 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) For some perspective: 1. Carl Nicks, Buccaneers – $12,500,000 2. Davin Joseph, Buccaneers – $9,500,000 3. Chris Snee, Giants – $7,900,000 4. Logan Mankins, Patriots – $7,000,000 5. Marshall Yanda, Ravens – $6,500,000 I think a lot of posters are failing to realize the grand scheme of things here. If the Bills signed Levitre they would be parlaying his deal and cap hit, along with Fitzpatricks 7 million dollar cap hit into next season. The NFL has a salary cap in place for a reason, you cant keep every good player on your team indefinitely. I would much rather say goodbye to Levitre now then have to say goodbye to Eric Wood next year or CJ Spiller the following year. If you are really upset about losing Levitre but were very pro signing Mario Williams, then this is what happens. You cant be a buyer every year. Edited March 12, 2013 by TallskiWallski83
The Big Cat Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 a no 1 pick we develop . plays good and leaves again. deja vu all overagain.... He was our third pick that draft.
Best Player Available Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Reported 8 million, I would have kept him here for that. Very disappointed, another hole to fill. But not as big as some might think. The guy was never even considered for post season honors, zero playoff experience (not his fault) and most likely not the guy Marrone had in mind, especially at 8 mil per. The personal attachment for average players borders on crazy here sometimes. It's a business, and he is getting way too much for his skill set. Good luck to him, but big deal.
bigK14094 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Bills will now sign Reinhart if they can. He performed well in his starts these last couple of years, and, although he is not as flexible as Levetre in terms of moving to tackle, he is pretty good at guard. He also will not cost $8 mil a year. He will get 2-3 mil, I think though.

Fan in Chicago Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 fixed. Which is my point - Byrd was a good keep. If it was about money, I would have let McK walk and used the money for Levitre. ANd, next year hasn't happened yet so we don't know if we will keep Wood. Again, for durability alone, Levitre > Wood. We also let Fitz go and (no cap expert) saveed money if not this year at least in the out years. What exactly are we planning to do with the money ? This is only one hour into FA, but history has shown that we make shockingly underwhelming moves in FA (and please don't point to a single MarioW signing to prove me otherwise)
QCity Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 The Bills could not afford this? Has nothing to do with afford. Has everything to do with value.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Levitre is the one guy who deserves the money. But nix-- like many gm's-- maybe doesn't like to put that much money at the guard position.
Bill from NYC Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 btw....say hello to an OL pick at #8. I doubt it. Now it's time to sell tickets. They will HAVE to draft a qb in round 1 imo. And please don't take this post the wrong way KD. I am 100% aware that QB is our biggest need. But now they are backed into a corner where they might very well have to reach for one. JMO!!!!!!
Fan in Chicago Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 But not as big as some might think. Good luck to him, but big deal. Think about how many years it took us to get a guard like Levitre and then tell me again how easy it is.
auburnbillsbacker Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Yeah, I'm disappointed too Bill, but $8MM is a big price tag. That's money than can help fix the LB core. Would he have cost 8 million per year if we resigned him prior to the start of last season? That is what I want to know?

CodeMonkey Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Finally, so the question is: Does Andy Levitre deserve to be the fourth highest paid guard in the league? The Titans seem to think so. Time will tell I guess.

JMO!!!!!! 15 minutes back I was disappointed and now that I have had time to think about it, I am incensed that we did not pay Levitre $8 MM/yr to keep him. Sorry but this is an utterly idiotic non-move.
Wayne Cubed Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Has nothing to do with afford. Has everything to do with value. Not to mention he's a UFA. He can go where he wants. So the Bills would presumably have to offer more. And then you get into a bidding war... Over an OG. Sorry, not worth it.
