dpberr Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 To everyone saying that these "pranksters" are going to get arrested or whatever: unless these guys were stupid enough to use one of their own cell phones and not a prepaid, they won't be able to be traced. Also I would hope that the FBI has better things to do than start a manhunt for a couple of harmless prank callers. I wouldn't take that bet. NFL Security is mostly retired FBI and DSS and the NFL is pretty persuasive. If the NFL wants it investigated, I'm pretty sure it's going to happen. The manhunt starts with "Barry" from Deadspin. Bet he gives up the names in +/- 30 minutes.

How about the fact there is no way they can sell Fitz or Nix to the fanbase any longer?
DrDawkinstein Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 The thing I find the most interesting is how so many people spout off as if they know exactly how the typical conversation between GMs goes. It's one of those things I have always wondered about, especially when people start talking about trade rumors. It seems like a lot of people exact every single word between GMs to be offer/counter-offer. So for me, this call was interesting because it showed that GMs can have a far more casual conversation than a lot of fans would expect. Indeed! Im always fascinated with an opportunity to see how things really work in the NFL. That's why I'll always love every season of Hard Knocks. How do coaches really speak to players? How to they really speak to their assistants? How do GMs handle players and agents and coaches? We all think we'd know how to handle every single one of the thousands of conversations they have to participate in. But none of us really knows what goes into it. I found this article to be nothing more than an interesting glimpse at GM life. I also found it reassuring to hear that the FO feels the same about Fitz as the fans. Not sure what any of the fans would be upset about.

CodeMonkey Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 This is definitely a win despite the media circus around this. Pressure is on Fitz now really. How he will react to this I have no clue, but he must realise his best chance to start is by renegotiating with the Bills. So the Bills GM gets a private phone conversation recorded by a couple kids who weren't initially even trying to record it. And during this conversation he not only says that he has no idea what he is going to do about the teams QB situation, but that he doesn't know what he will do about his current QB that he gave a big contract to last year and who will be fighting for the backup position this coming season. And all of this happens right before the Bills go out and try to sign free agents that presumably will be getting offers from other teams as well. Yup that is definitely a win for sure.

KOKBILLS Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Is it strange after reading and listening to this I feel 100% better about the Fitz situation? I mean...At least Buddy sees it like most of us do...I said yesterday if you can tell me Fitz will agree to something around the average for a back-up QB in the NFL I'm all ears...Otherwise, not so much... Anyway...
Bufcomments Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 first off ,those kids who did this are in it deep now. But with that said... Buddy just said what was true....Fitz has to restructure or they in Buddy's words have to make a decision. I hope they make the "decision" today because by now you know Ryan Fitzpatrick has heard it. What Nix should have said was...".I kinda fuc**d us by signing Ryan in the middle of the season." The sooner Buddy is gone the better. This is why he should have been fired at the same time as Chan. Thanks! Well, yes and no. Certainly if I had a secretary, and he said that a colleague from a company we do business with was on the line, I'd answer. And if the call immediately disconnected, I'd either call back or ask the secretary to do so for me. But if, after calling back several times, I hadn't heard anyone pick up, nor had I gotten the voicemail of who I thought it was (which Nix specifically said at the top of the call), I think I'd be pretty suspicious, and maybe verify that I've got the right number. Probably would've e-mailed the colleague in question to verify the number as well. this +1 the email would have solved it . Dang Gum Buddy.

DrDawkinstein Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Apparently we didn't know that Buddy Nix talks exactly like Buddy Nix. "He sounds country! He must be stupid!" -the folks with that hard-A Buffalo accent that the rest of the country laughs at.

I've believed--from the beginning--that Nix will stay on through the major offseason events (FA/Draft), then be gone, a la Modrak '11.

DrDawkinstein Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I've believed--from the beginning--that Nix will stay on through the major offseason events (FA/Draft), then be gone, a la Modrak '11. Agreed. I think it was mentioned a number of times that most FO employment contracts run from May to May.

Certainly seems that way, and if there was any doubt, I imagine this seals it. A marketing guy like Russ "This is a New Era" Brandon can't be happen about this kind of public embarrassment. But the Bills have surprised me before.
#34fan Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) If this is real, do you guys realize how F#$%ed we are? The entire NFL now knows what our inept front office is thinking behind the scenes. They know for sure now how we are handcuffed, plans etc. This is bigger, IF REAL, than many fans are currently thinking. This is beyond not good. Agreed... This conversation ID's Buddy as a total SHMUCK, and lets our divisional rivals know they've got ZERO to worry about.. More blood in the water as the sharks circle. Thanks for posting it Jauron... hell of a find. Edited March 12, 2013 by #34fan

It's funny that some around here use the hindsight (being 20/20) argument to defend Nix when it comes to the Draft and other moves he's made...But in reality Nix gets a tremendous amount of clarity himself when given the benefit of hindsight...So...
