there has been talks of going after Kruger which would be awesome but he might be out of our price range. It looks like Denver is going to cut Elvis and his size would be ideal for Pettine's hybrid-D. he may be out of price range also but maybe his price comes down he he isn't picked up right away.

"There has been no communication between the two sides since Dumervil’s agent Marty Magid sent in his restructuring proposal Friday.

“Elvis has been working out, he’s healthy, he feels great,” Magid said. “He wants to stay with the Broncos. Right now, we’re waiting to hear back from them.”

The Broncos and Dumervil are midway through a six-year, $61.5 million contract extension that was negotiated by former coach Josh McDaniels following Dumervil’s NFL-leading 17 sack season of 2009. The team paid him $3.168 million in 2010, a season he missed because of a torn pectoral injury suffered in training camp, $14 million

in 2011 when he had 9 1/2 sacks, and $14 million

in 2012, when he had 11 sacks."

Another guy that makes sense. Fits the scheme, it seems. Beast pass rusher. Him on one side and Mario on the other would be fearsome. When someone signs Kruger, he should be the next target.

I would say that he'd be a luxury, not really a need. Bills need a NT and LBs, but have lot's of DE candidates.

Dumervil is far too small to play DE in our scheme.

His run defense metrics are God-awful. Not my first choice. Would rather Connor Barwin.

I agree. He's a one-trick pony. Dumervil only makes sense if his sole job is to rush the passer, which it wouldn't be at either DE or OLB in Pettine's scheme, unless you want to use him as a pass-rushing down specialist.

He is?? What, excactly, is "our scheme", coach?

Assuming we run a 3-4 hybrid, a 6'0, 260 pound pass rusher is far too small to play D.E. There's a reason guys like Freeney and Dumervil can only play 3-4 rush linebacker or 4-3 blind side D.E.

So why won't they want him at LB?

Unless you think we'd suddenly put him at 43 olb and 34 de I'm not sure what your argument is.

The main concern I'd see is having a lot of money already tied up in the pass rush

He's a classic 3-4 OLB, but good football players are good football players. You're over-thinking this man. Teams like the Ravens and the Steelers stopped to talking about "schemes" and "fitting players into schemes" 5 years ago. You find a way to get your seven best guys on the field. Not saying Dumervil is great, he's not, but he's gonna have ten sacks for whatever team he plays for. Look at a guy like Kyle Williams. He's played 3-4 DE, NT and 4-3 DT in the last three years and he's always about the same wherever he plays. Actually, he was the best at NT, which most people would assume he's least-suited to play based on his "measurables."

My understanding of Pettine's D is that the OLBs have to be able to stop the run. A good deal of the pass rush comes from a DE (Coples, our Mario Williams) unlike San Francisco's 3-4, where Aldon Smith's job is pretty much to exclusively rush the passer. I have a feeling that we won't have a "Joker" linebacker and will rely on multiple fronts/multiple roles for our OLBs and DEs. I just don't think Dumervil fits what Pettine is looking for.

he would a LB for us, just like Kruger would.

Does he have a track record of success at that position or would this be another Chris Kelsay experiment?

If the Bill's need a nose tackle then what do think they'll do with both Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus? One of them will be playing NT this year and the other will likely still play DT when they go wit ha 4-3

I'm interested to find out, but I would expect to see Dareus get a look at DE along with M Williams in the 3-4, with Carrington and Johnson backing up. K Williams will be a half baked NT. I hear what you're saying- what do they do with K Williams if they draft a NT? I don't know what the answer is but the Bills defense with Dareus and Williams was very weak versus the run. They need a bigger body in the middle to shore things up.

One other long shot option would be to play M Williams as an OLB and Kyle Williams as DE in a Wade Phillips style "5-2". Then you could have a new NT and Dareus as the other DLs and Anderson as the other OLB. I'm not sure that it would work since you would have two guys (Williams and Dareus) that you probably wouldn't want to leave on an open edge and two former DEs playing in space if they dropped. I think that it may be something to look at though IF they can find a NT.
