Punch Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Ed Kilgore @kedwinkilgore Just learned former #Bills great George Saimes passed away last night in Canton Oh. Had been fighting leukemia. He was 72.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Geez we lost Ernie Warlick late last year. Another member of those great teams has left us. Maybe the best safety in AFL history. RIP George.
Chandler#81 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 He's regarded as the AFL's best safety. I'm fairly certain Collier and Saimes 'invented' the safety blitz. Thank you for the memories, George! R.I.P.
mob16151 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Before my time,so Im sorry I never got to see him play. R.I.P.

JinWPB Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 RIP Mr. Saimes All Pro member of the best defensive backfield the Bills and the AFL ever had / Butch Byrd, Booker Edgerson, Charlie Warner, and George Saimes.
jaybee Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 RIP Mr. Saimes All Pro member of the best defensive backfield the Bills and the AFL ever had / Butch Byrd, Booker Edgerson, Charlie Warner, and George Saimes. Its sad to see these legends pass. Hell as a boy I had all their football cards. Its guys like George that shaped my fan-hood at a very young age. OK I was an LA Rams fan as a boy. Roman Gabriel. Billy Truax. Les Josephson, Jack Snow. The fearsome foursome. Etc. But I was very aware of the AFL Buffalo Bills. They were my 2nd favorite team back in the 60's. Not anymore. I live and breath Buffalo Bills regardless of how bad they are. RIP George. Luv ya man. RIP. jb
KollegeStudnet Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Ed Kilgore @kedwinkilgore Just learned former #Bills great George Saimes passed away last night in Canton Oh. Had been fighting leukemia. He was 72. I picture Saimes, Warlick and Kemp drinking from the same keg in heaven
BuffaloBud Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Kind of wish the Bills had some sort of museum like the Packers do to keep some if that long history alive.
Ennjay Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I'm old enough to remember watching him. He was a Damn, DAMN fine football player. RIP Mr. Saimes.
jaybee Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Kemp died? Yea, back in 2009 if I recall correctly. He was a GREAT Bill too. Loftin that ball up for Cookie Gilchrist! Damn those were the days. jb
Greybeard Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 My two favorite Bills have always been George and Bob James. They were both so good I just couldn't pick one. George was perhaps the best tackler who ever played for Buffalo. RIP George
San Jose Bills Fan Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Kemp died? Yes. Apparently Tom Landry is also in the great beyond.
Helpmenow Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I picture Saimes, Warlick and Kemp drinking from the same keg in heaven . Tom sestak as well.
boyst Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 If anyone can find me highlights I would be happy to see them. If ESPN mentions it, or shows highlights let me know.

Damn those were the days. jb Glory Days!!!! Cookie Gilcrest (fb) number sure got called alot while he was here (lookie.lookie here comes cookie) wish he was in our backfield today.Goldenwheels Elbert Dubenion (flanker), Glenn Bass (split end) Ernie Warlick ( tightend.)andWray Carlton (hb) who scored very first Bills TD. Out scored opposition 400 to 242 going 13-2 winning 1964 championship repeted in 1965 .We all agreed they could have handled the Packers if SB had come those years.
