Hapless Bills Fan Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Seeing that every QB in free agency and the draft has flaws. Let's put on our GM hats and as Whaley says decide what flaws we can tolerate. I will give you five categories and let you all rank them. Accuracy, Arm Strength, Football Intelligence, Athleticism, and Mental Confidence I was trying to find a category for a players ability to forget the last interception and come back and remain confident so he can lead his team to victory instead of sulking. Mental confidence is the best I could come up with ( I am open for suggestions). My Five are: #1 Accuracy (as Bill Parcells says you can't teach accuracy) #2 Football Intelligence (You got to know where to throw the ball) #3 Mental Confidence (Difference between Ryan Leaf and Peyton Manning) #4 Arm Strength (You need to make all the nfl throws) #5 Athleticism (Highly overrated look at Manning and Brady two of the best you just need pocket awareness) I honestly don't know if any of the current crop of qb's has real accuracy. Smith can throw a great 10 yard pass behind the LOS and Barkeley looked really bad this year. I hate to say it but I don't see one qb worth taking in rounds 1 or 2. I would definitely avoid round 1. The read option is just a gimmick like the wildcat. Defenses will catch up to it this year and a lot of QB's will get hurt. That is why athleticism is last. Arm strength is important to a degree. You just need to make all the throws. I would focus on the top 3. I am curious what you people think. I'm not so sure that you can't teach accuracy, or at least improve it. There are a number of QB in the recordbook whose completion percentage jumped after a number of years in the league. Be that as it may, here is an article that may be of interest. (For those who don't know, Football Outsiders is not your Walter Football/Bleacher Report fan site. It's more similar to Cold Hard Football Facts) a QB who can throw for more then 3000 yds in a season. Who throws more then 20 TD's in a season and more TD's then INT's. Who can show to be capable of a 60% season completion rate. Must be at least 6' 2" tall Who is durable enough to play all 16 games I guess you wouldn't want Russell Wilson or Drew Brees (Fitzpatrick fan are ya?)
Hotpockets28 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 #1..have brains like ryan leaf...#2 accuracy like jamarcus russell..#3 arm strength like a little girl like fitzgarbage...and Bam instant hall of famer
BuffaloFan68 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I'm not a fan of NFL QBs under 6'4" however I will make an exception for Geno Smith. The kid is a beast with a strong & accurate arm. Size wise, I like EJ. Right now I'll be happy with anyone other than Fitz or Thiggy.
Rockinon Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 a QB who can throw for more then 3000 yds in a season. Who throws more then 20 TD's in a season and more TD's then INT's. Who can show to be capable of a 60% season completion rate. Must be at least 6' 2" tall Who is durable enough to play all 16 games Fitz had 3400yds, a 60.6% completion percentage and 24TDs. You aren't asking for much. Oh, and he's 6'2" 224lbs. Are you saying you want Fitz to start?
Dean Cain Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Strong arm, pocket composure, avoid sacks, accurate, leadership, able to read defenses & quickly go through progressions.
RussellDopeland Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Our next QB must be clean-shaven (no stupid amish beards). If he's married, he must avoid wearing his wedding ring on the field. He also must be able to throw the ball, with accuracy, more than thirty yards downfield. And in the last five minutes of a game, he must be able to complete passes to his receivers, not to opposing defenders.
jr1 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I want a QB with big hands that won't throw goal line interceptions because he can't grip the ball properly
turftoe Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Matt Scott fits the bill (no pun intended) The more that I watch and read on this guy the more he stands out. 1). Accuracy..check. From what I have been reading he is very accurate. 2). Strong arm...check. right up there with Glennon. Throws a nice tight spiral. 3) Athletic...check. can make plays with his feet. His speed reminds me of a young Michael Vick. 4) Hard worker/Dedication...check. like a taller Russell Wilson. 5) Durable..semi check. He has played hurt. He needed to put on weight, which he has, now up to around 215 lbs and could add some more. Even with the weight, he was super fast in the combine drills. 6). Quick learner...check. He learned two different systems in college. 7). Clutch...check. He won some big games at the end. I want this guy in a bills uniform. I don't think he gets past Philly at the top of round #2. Chip Kelly offered him a scholarship to Oregon, but he already committed to Arizona. Philly has already set up a meeting with him following his very impressive pro day.

San Jose Bills Fan Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Hence the need for a skilled meth lab operator. Dude I agree the guy should be a skilled lab operator but if you're saying the meth should be produced in the clubhouse, you're crazy, IMO. Remember when Jauron had all those TVs in the weight room? You shouldn't mix work with pleasure. Sorry to be a douche but it's a bad idea.
