Zulu Cthulhu Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Thanks FiC but I am guilty of being a Kelsay hater. I never really participated in the Donte, Fitz or Poz hatred but I always found it easy to get very annoyed with Kelsay. More than anything else, for a guy who was "the consumate pro" he was always losing outside containment and being fooled by misdirection. This literally brought me to the brink of blind rage on numerous occasions. If you're: a) A consumate professional, and b) A seasoned veteran, this sort of repeated failure is completely inexcusable. Hopefully this is the last time I have to vent about Kelsay. This is exactly right and should be the beginning and end of the argument. Even his supporters always claimed his work ethic, attitude, etc. as his strong points. No one ever called CK a rare talent or elite specialist in one area of the game. Fact is, after 10 years of ample playing time and opportunity, he was still making bad decisions on the field, playing out of position, not doing his job, making blatant mistakes. He lacked positional discipline and was making rookie mistakes 7, 8, 9 years into his career. He's not leading the younger guys by example playing like that. Eball is right, the stats he put up were consistent, consistently awful. If he wants to call that "production," then fine. But I cant be mad at the money he made and neither should anyone else. That's an indictment on the decision makers and franchise as a whole. They're deserving of way more scorn than CK. Glad he's finally gone, should've been cut many years ago.
Numark Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 (edited) On second thought. You all win. Even when a veteran announces his retirement and talks about what decisions led to this retirement and that he was thinking about it for months, he is lying. Even though there were no reports, quotes, or indications that he was asked to take a paycut or he was going to be cut, let's believe that. Kelsay sucked. He was a thief. I hate him. I'm glad he is gone. Ralph is cheap. Edited March 1, 2013 by Numark
Dibs Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 ....I have a problem with every single kelsay hater hinting that he was going to be cut (Including you SJBF, no offense). What evidence do you, SJBF, have that says kelsay was going to be cut, was told he was going to be cut, or the coaches hinted at? And what common sense is this based on? I personally am not a Kelsay hater. I have backed his abilities before(in comparison to other #2 DEs in the league).....and even supported his contract numbers(some years back). I personally assumed that he would be cut for several reasons. He was getting old. His durability had become a question(particularly considering his age). His cap number was extraordinarily high for a #2 DE in today's league......he was the 23rd highest paid DE in the league. The logic was to at least ask him to take a pay cut.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Numark and Mob, This is what JW said in the post I quoted upthread: He's working out and approaching it as if he's going to be back, while aware that the decision is not entirely his. jw Add that to the fact that the Bills doctors cleared him to resume working out which speaks to me of an intention to return for 2013. So if we're being fair here, it seemed that Kelsay intended to play at least one more season. Then he suddenly announced his retirement. There are two possible explanations. The one given by Kelsay or the one I believe, that the team told him he wasn't in their plans. None of us know the truth but I think both explanations are equally plausible. I certainly give no weight to Kelsay's official statement. That's all PR and glad-handing stuff that always happens during retirement statements. Kelsay retired with a few million dollars left on the table. Again, I believe he was forced out. Sorry about the a-holishness of my pre-edited response. I changed it when I realized I was being a douche.

But JW's recent posts seem to contradict kelsay's story, at least indirectly.

Numark Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Sorry about the a-holishness of my pre-edited response. I changed it when I realized I was being a douche. Like I said, you don't. You;ve been one of the better posters here for a long time and I don't mean to be rude either. This issue got under my skin. I'm out of the argument though haha
San Jose Bills Fan Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Thanks Numark. I appreciate that very much. And here I'd just gotten done saying I wouldn't have to discuss Chris Kelsay ever again and then I put my foot back in it like two posts later. Okay. I'm done with this discussion too. I hope.
mob16151 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 LOL. And what country are you from? The one where guys like T.O. and Randy Moss play.
Zulu Cthulhu Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 The one where guys like T.O. and Randy Moss play. But you don't trust the beat reporter whose job is to just report on the the team. Let me ask you this: who has more of an agenda and opportunity to promote it, the star WR (or DE, whatever) or the relatively anonymous AP beat writer?
Tcali Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Kelsay mentioned he is going in a different direction.......----towards the QB??? -sorry if thats a repeat--i didnt read the whole thread. Kudos to kelsay for being a nice guy and for trying.

Now mind you if jw comes out and says hey, I can definetly confirm Kelsay was told retire or be cut, well I'd be like my bad,i'm wrong. Edited March 1, 2013 by mob16151
AtlantaStampede Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I never had a problem with Kelsay. Seemed like a good guy, big effort on the field, no issues off the field - a professional. People HATE on this guy for being over paid. That's not his fault. If my boss gives me a raise tomorrow I'm taking every penny of it - whether I deserve it or not. Blame the front office for giving him the contract, don't blame Chris. The dude gives this team his entire career, a decade of his life, and the "Fans" on this blog are thanking god and praising jesus he's gone. Seriously? Classy. I wish him the very best and thank him for his 10 years in Buffalo.

And why this HATE ON phrase when people simply pointed out that he wasnt very good? You can criticize a players play without HATING ON him. he was a very likeable guy who didnt show lack of effort just lack of results.

He wanted to play for one team and spend more time with his family. He retired. Like any player that I could tell gave his al for TEN YEARS I respect him. I played this game at a HS level and saw how hard it was. Kudos to any man that can stick for 10 years
NewEra Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 (edited) I skipped this thread til now yet only read the last page. I can't imagine spending that much time reading and typing about Chris Kelsey. Glad you retired. I have some respect for you, but I'm glad your career is over. Enjoy your time with your family. Edited March 1, 2013 by NewEra
The Helmet of Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 best of luck # 90. a solid player, always gave a strong effort. too bad he didn't get to taste the playoffs.

I can't dislike a player for his on-field play while respecting him as a person?? Can someone please tell me how to feel??? smh
ganesh Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 This would have been his fourth regime change. Now, only Lindell has survived as many... And he (Lindell) may not be out of the woods yet...He very well could be replaced by a cheaper option before/after training camp I'm confused by this, too. I can't dislike a player for his on-field play while respecting him as a person?? Can someone please tell me how to feel??? smh It is easy...If you love football, you can always do that....There are so many great players on other teams that we dislike on the field, but once the game is done, we really appreciate their games. I am a big Knicks fan and for a decade when they had one of their best teams, they were pummeled every year by Michael Jordan (and by Olajuwon the two years Michael took a break) in the playoffs and they ended up having ZERO championships while Jordan and the Bulls had SIX. Yet, I really enjoyed watching Jordan as a player...He was magnificent.
