C.Biscuit97 Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Relatively close in stature. Austin, like Sproles will take on the multi-dimensional threat role on whatever team selects him. Just like the Saints use Sproles in the return game, running the ball, and as a passing game matchup nightmare against Linebackers. I think it's a big difference. Sproles is shorter and weighs more. He is much more compact. 2 of the best slot receivers - Welker and Amendola are much more solid guys than Martin and they struggle to stay healthy.
26CornerBlitz Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 @AlbertBreer: Draft-week effect: Tavon Austin has gone from a very good, explosive specialist to the 2nd coming of Paul Warfield.
Magox Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Would it not be catastrophic / tragic if the Bills drafted another Roscoe Parrish-type dude with a number one pick? You know. the type of player with the durability of a Buffalo School Board President? Well, there is one little tiny difference between the two. Roscoe Parrish's stats: He had 19 , 24 and 43 receptions at UM For a total of 1355 total yard receiving through out his career with 12 TD's. He rushed for a career total of 186 yards with 1 TD Tavon Austin: had 114 receptions for 1289 yards with 12 TD's 72 Rushes for 643 yards HIS SENIOR YEAR! His Junior year he had 101 receptions for 1186 yards with 8 TD's The guy had over 1000 yards Rushing and 3000 yards receiving and 35 TD's for his career. And that isn't even counting his Special teams TD's. The only way you can reasonably make the comparison you are trying to make is purely on size and quickness. Production counts!
Nitro Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 (edited) Tavon has been compared to Desean Jackson. Here is the tale of the tape (physical) Tavon Austin vs Desean Jackson. Austin 5-8 174lbs, Jackson 5-9.5 170lbs. 40 yard dash Austin 4.34, Jackson 4.39. Smurff receivers and running backs can be successful in the NFL. Not sure I would take at 8 but if someone else wants him, make the trade. Remember there was 16 first round trades last year. I think this year will be just as active. Edited April 25, 2013 by Nitro

Captain Hindsight Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 If we breakup, I will post them. And she is more of a Randy Moss deep threat type. Just likes it deep huh?
mitchmurraydowntown Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 my #1 hot chick board switches every time I watch a movie. . As well as your sheets.

You know. the type of player with the durability of a Buffalo School Board President? I'm not seeing anywhere where he's been injured during his career where he scored 35 TDs. Welker's the same size, and while he's not been immune to injury, he's played enough to push 10000 yds. He's not Roscoe Parrish. Look, he's not even my first choice, but I'm just getting tired of these facile arguments based on attributes and not performance or facts.

But the NFL is much, much difference than the Big East/ Big 12. Bigger, faster guys and 16 game seasons. His size is a major concern.
KollegeStudnet Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 After we select Austin at 8, I almost want to say... "Not another gimmick player?!"
26CornerBlitz Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 @JasonColeYahoo WR Tavon Austin rising faster than his 40 time. Source just said he won't last until 9. Unreal, especially for such a small receiver

Bigger, faster guys and 16 game seasons. His size is a major concern. That is an interesting point you bring up. So I looked up his stats against top competition. Texas, Oklahoma, Ok state and Texas Tech. Good teams right? 35 receptions for 360 yards and 2 TDs and 364 yards Rushing on 26 carries with 2 TD's. The year before he had 11 receptions for 187 yards vs LSU So at least we know that against the very best, he was a gamer.
Cugalabanza Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 "Boy, I just keep hearing so much about this 'Fünke'!" ...some will get it, some won't. With the #8 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select... Steve Holt!!

The very best in College is no where near what he's going to face in the NFL...Just ask CJ... I really hope I'm wrong about this...And if the Bills pick Austin he truly turns out to be the next Wes Welker...Oh and I should mention...He damn well better be the next Wes Welker if you're Drafting him in the top 10...He needs to be that good to justify being Drafted there... But anyway... I think those of you who are trying to find reasons to endorse such a risky pick at #8 are going to be asking yourselves what the hell you were thinking 3 years from now...I know people always want to give the Bills the benefit of the doubt...So when considering Austin at #8 folks are going to scramble to support it no matter how dumb it seems on the surface...But ask yourselves how that line of thinking has that worked out over the past 13 years?... I just think Austin is a terrible pick for this team, at this time...We'll see though...At this point the Bills are due to have something work out right?...Aren't they? With the #8 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select... Steve Holt!! STEVE HOLT!!!
Magox Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 The very best in College is no where near what he's going to face in the NFL...Just ask CJ... I think that goes without saying. The point I was making is that vs. top level college competition, he excelled. Also, I personally value players that have been very productive in college, specially in the skill positions. Then when you combine those incredible stats, with his dynamism and speed, you get a play making player with a history of high production. I see him more in the mold of a DeSean jackson. I'd be very happy if he had similar stats to him.
The Bunk Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 I like Austin the player, but i hate him as the 8th pick for THIS team. I'll say this, if we had to take Austin or one of the guards, i'd take Austin. This team needs to trade down. In a bad way.

If I recall, West Virginia lost a few of those above
