Coach Tuesday Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 I think you're too quick to assume Fitz is Buddy's guy. I think it's becoming clearer that Fitz was Chan's guy, and that's mostly why he was let go. This will obviously play out as the offseason progresses, but I have my doubts that Buddy's as committed to Fitz as some would insinuate. EDIT: "Buddy's guy" LOLZ Buddy paid him... (Nice to see you back here, BC, by the way...)
nucci Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I find it refreshing and interesting to have a position coach like that say what everyone else already knows: except Buddy and Chan anyhow. FWIW, I don't really consider his comments trashing Fitz, just being painfully honest. IMO. He's got no reason to hold back, and I don't really see anybody standing up rebutting him either. Easy to say once you've been fired. Why didn't he say it when he was here coaching? It's nothing new. Fitz needs to be replaced. He's not saying anything we don't already know.
The Big Cat Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Buddy paid him... (Nice to see you back here, BC, by the way...) Understood. But, it was well understood that there was synergy/trust during the Chixley days. If I'm right, and if Nix erred, it was in giving too many keys to Chan. (good to be back, kinda) (seriously, a regime-change off season without TSW? FOGETTABOUTIT!)
Webster Guy Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I am going to guess that those who love this team, will buy their seasons regardless. You can not take the fan out of a person. You can suck all of the enjoyment out of us......but we will go anyway! Apparently we love the punishment..........or fandom is so deeply in our veins that it doesn't matter. Besides.........tailgating is one of my favorite things about going to a game. As long as they don't mess with that I will be there I agree. I figure the Bills at home will always have a 50/50 chance of winning, and I still like watching them play because I know who all the players are and we have some exciting ones to watch out there. Marketing is overrated when it comes to an NFL team with loyal fans. Its like your gas and electric company making a television ad-- uh, sorry but you're a monopoly and I've already accepted that and I don't really care.

How do you explain Buddy not drafting a QB in three years. Except 1 rd 6 or 7 guy? Can't blame that on Chan.
Rob's House Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 The guy sounds like kind of an a-hole. I won't miss him.
The Big Cat Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 How do you explain Buddy not drafting a QB in three years. Except 1 rd 6 or 7 guy? Can't blame that on Chan. Given our situation, given how things have shaken out thus far, his ONE miss was Graham over Wilson last year. So, yeah, shame on him for missing that one third round quarterback... I suppose he could have taken Dalton over A. Williams, but how much better would we be with different shades of mediocrity?
CodeMonkey Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Besides.........tailgating is one of my favorite things about going to a game. As long as they don't mess with that I will be there That actually is another really good reason (maybe the best reason) season ticket sales will always be fairly strong in Buffalo.
BillsVet Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 all he has to do is cut him its a one year cap hit and move on the contract has little bearing on the teams future So why haven't the Bills cut him yet? They've had 2+ weeks now.
atlbillsfan1975 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Sounds spot on. Metz said it, i wonder how many players think it?
Mr. WEO Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Given our situation, given how things have shaken out thus far, his ONE miss was Graham over Wilson last year. So, yeah, shame on him for missing that one third round quarterback... I suppose he could have taken Dalton over A. Williams, but how much better would we be with different shades of mediocrity? Really? Dalton and Fitz the same? Webster Guy commented in another post: "Dalton is a multi year pro bowl QB already. Threw more TD's this year than Eli, Big Ben, Russel Wilson to name a few and that's with a sketchy O-line and a lukewarm running attack. Led a loser squad to the playoffs twice. If Nassib=Andy Dalton we would take him in a heartbeat." Also, regarding Dalton, (from wiki) Dalton became just one of five rookie quarterbacks with over 3,000 passing yards and at least 20 touchdown passes, joining fellow rookie Cam Newton and also Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, and Charlie Conerly He is the only quarterback in NFL history not drafted in the first round to start all 16 games of his rookie season, much less start his team's playoff game as well. Dalton became one of three players in NFL history with at least 20 touchdown passes in each of his first two seasons, joining Peyton Manning and Dan Marino.[31] the first time the Bengals made the playoffs in consecutive seasons since 1981-1982 Dalton was another Buddy miss, especially considering how awful Williams is.
KOKBILLS Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 The guy sounds like kind of an a-hole. I won't miss him. Who Metz? Really? Look...It may not be politically correct for him to tell the truth after being let go...But that's all he did...The Metz I met and spoke with twice was certainly not an a-hole...Not at all...

How has Cincy's defense compared to ours? He's throwing to A.J. Green, who has more talent than all our WR's combined. I don't care how well he's done with the Bengals, try to imagine what the BILLS would have been like with him in charge. Not so pretty.

I wanted to get married there for crying out loud! The family had other ideas tho So I will do a 5 yr renewal tailgate wedding instead haha. DDD Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Give T Jax the job, let him flounder and play for a high pick next year. Trade some picks this year to get more next year to be able to move into position to take a top talent. Sometimes you have to intentionally take a step back to make a leap forward. For years this 'We don't lose no matter what esp. for draft position' has us right where we are now. You want to put off upgrading the team via the draft for another season? Is that you Buddy Nix?
KD in CA Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 "Fitz is an average to below-average kind of guy, and unfortunately he made some bad decisions at the end of games and then didn't make plays at the ends of other games we had chances to win. So it's got to start there." Is there anyone left here that would dispute that statement? As far as the Bills not returning his calls, that's just silly on his part. The Bills don't owe him courtesy phone calls. If they were interested, they would have called.

Too bad Metz had to bring up the whole call-return stuff...It left the door open for folks to paint his comments as anything other than the obvious truth... On the other hand here is a long-time Bills player and ex-Coach who put in a call...Marrone owes Metz nothing, but he could have done the classy thing and called the guy back... GG Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 You know what's funny about this thread? Metz was far more damning of the defense than of Fitz, yet it's flying over everyone's head.
San-O Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 You know what's funny about this thread? Metz was far more damning of the defense than of Fitz, yet it's flying over everyone's head. Good point. I guess it's much easier to be Fitz apologist than "Bills D" apologist?
Buffalo Barbarian Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 http://blogs.buffalo...itzpatrick.html "Fitz is an average to below-average kind of guy, and unfortunately he made some bad decisions at the end of games and then didn't make plays at the ends of other games we had chances to win. So it's got to start there." Interesting that he also says that he inquired about a job with Marrone's staff and no one even returned his calls. So OBD keeps Fitz around, and doesn't even return the phone calls of a decent coach who was also a solid contributor and warrior as a player. Classy stuff. Here is my real question - putting aside whether you think Fitz is salvagable or not, how on earth are they going to sell any season tickets if he is the starting QB heading into the season? It boggles my mind from a marketing perspective. glad to see Metz calling it the way that it is. Pretty common for new staffs to throw out the old even if they are good. somehow they will sucker us into getting hyped for the season (another "GREAT" draft) to buy more tickets and then attendance plummets when the season is over. I really hope we tank the season so that we can finally get a real franchise QB in 2014.
