not a drama... it was a "Dateline NBC" type show.

It was about a girl who was killed. Name was Stephanie Crowe.. Her 14 year old brother admitted to the crime after HOURS of interregation. His confession was on tape. Then, his friend admitted to helping him, and told the entire story of how it was done. In total, there were three kids, who admitted to this big scheme to kill the kids sister, all while the family slept in the house.

Turns out, after all the confessions, etc, that they had nothing to do with it at all. Some guy that was seen in the neighborhood that night was the one who did it.

The whole show was about how after hours of interrogation, someone will admit to something they didnt even do.

Cops are allowed to lie to suspects, including telling them that they have evidence against them, telling them that their friends told them all about what happened, etc...

Just wondering if anyone saw it...

Being "tough on crime" is apparently more important than finding who is really guilty. Convictions are like baseball stats one uses to run for higher office. No ever bothers to ask if those convicted really committed the crime. The is reason #1 why I oppose the death penalty.

Well, it was crazy... they showed just the clip of the kid admitting the crime on tape, and THEN his friend explaining EXACTLY how they did it, and if that's all they had showed, I would have said "guilty" in a second on a jury.

What happened was, this guy who was wondering around the town WAS picked up and questioned, but the police reasoned that "there is no way he could have been quiet enough" to have commited the crime. . . ??!!?!? ...

Anyway, after 1 year, the Defense attorney asked that the shirt they took from him be DNA tested. The girls blood was found on his shirt.

But seriously, don't ya think the cops should have tested that themselves?

They made up their minds who did it, and that was it.

kids are especially prone to admitting something they didnt' do. Like those child abuse cases 15 years ago where the kids after hours of interrogation said the day care workers dressed up like aliens and molested them etc. (amarault's in mass.)
