Kellyto83TD Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 And that feeling stinks. T Jax to compete with Fitz? Everyone knows he will never lead us anywhere near a superbowl, cut him and move on, but our new HC and Nix (who hitched his GM legacy to the guy) have kept him. What sucks is if the Defense really comes on and we end up 6-10 to 8-8 and there is really good QB talent in the draft next year. Now we are too far up the draft chart to get a good one. Nix really set this franchise back by thinking Fitz was the real deal and ignoring QB for 3 years. This franchise will always be handcuffed and never see a superbowl again until QB is finally addressed with a top tier talent and for the forseeable future, we are handcuffed with average to below average talent.
Meathead Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 if it was an established nfl hc i would feel a ton more confident that they might be able to make a run at the playoffs. marrone might end up being good but i just dont see how he isnt going to struggle mightily early on. for every jim harbaugh there are at least twenty mike mularkeys. the defense will probably be pretty good but without a premier qb i think the offense takes a big step back in a new system. hope im wrong
Wagon Circler Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Unfortunately, the club is handcuffed this year by the guaranteed money given to Fitz. But I agree with you; cut him and move on. The numbers don't matter. Fitz is a loser. Start fresh with someone (anyone) else.
Buftex Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 (edited) Take some solace that inept coaching has cost this team, in my estimation, anywhere from 3-5 wins almost every year for the last decade. The cliche goes something like "a good coach puts his players in the best position to win". I don't think either Chan Gailey or Dick Jauron did that on a regular basis. I don't believe that the talent level on this roster is that much worse than so many other teams in the league. Now, that still may not translate into a playoff apperence, or a winnging record, but lets give the new HC the benefit of a doubt. There is a tendancy (and I am guilty of it too) of holding the current team responsible for the failures of the last...as it turns out, we have had a horrendous decade or so of bad football, but there is no reason that has to continue. I get that none of us are real excited at the prospect of heading into a year with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tarvaris Jackson as our QB options...but in the right offense, and a coach that doesn't expect more out of them than they can deliver, either guy, with their experience, might be able put up a respectable season... TPS Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 There is such a thing as trading up, but it's a little premature to start thinking about the 2014 draft before the 2013 draft...

I don't see Marrone adding 3-5 wins based on his coaching alone. This team is lacking talent at linebacker, strong safety, quarterback , wide reciever, cornerback. So I don't really agree on your assesment of talent on this team compared with good teams.
Maury Ballstein Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 woe is me..............let's hold back the tearfest until FA and the draft occurs. Bowe and Geno Smith and this whole thing has a better feel IMO. i'll cry with ya if you we don't draft a qb and fitz wins the "competition"
papazoid Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 our record will be worse than last year....i'd say 4-12

Bowe and Geno Smith and this whole thing has a better feel IMO. i'll cry with ya if you we don't draft a qb and fitz wins the "competition" Agreed. We can't be upset about something that hasn't happened yet. I'll be upset if we don't do anything this offseason, but who knows what the future holds. We don't know how good Marrone is, we don't know if our defense was bad especially because of Wanny. Theres alot of unknow and alot of ahead of us, let's keep our heads up until our roster is set.
SageAgainstTheMachine Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 I won't wail about the QB situation until the draft is over and we don't have a young prospective starter. Having two guys like Fitz and Tarvaris on the roster isn't unusual...it's regarding them as starting candidates that's trouble.

The bottom line is no coaching is going to fix Fitz. He is what he is and that is a journeyman backup. Fitz = Kelly Holcomb. No one in the NFL besides a Nix/ Gailey combo would ever have allowed him to be a starter and paid him that much money. Now these stupid decisions are continuing to set us back.
Dean Cain Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 The pragmatist in me says tank this season.
ny33 Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 6-10. Expect- by the numbers- improved run defense, worse pass defense, and a slightly worse offense.

benderbender Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 So we suck, and you're preparing an I told you so? Classy.

But you have to have a QB behind center that can hit a 20+ yard pass more than 5% of the time. If you limit your offense to 10 yard passes or less you will go no where. Look at the past 3 years for proof. I agree that the running backs were not used enough, this is a no brainer. But no downfield game hurts the running game also. Please find a QB that can hit the 20-40 yard downfield pass consistently.............

Wannstadt destroyed any hope the players had to succeed. This year will be a learning year and a settling in. should be fun though. Not going to look like last yearses teams. I am upbeat and hopeful. for now. heck it is the off season
Dr. Trooth Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 WASTE? It is not likely to come down to a Fitz-Jax competition. Bills will draft their future qb on day one. You suggest that it would suck if the defense turned it around and their record was 6-10 or 8-8. Well, even if Fitz were to be the QB, it is virtually the same offense with perhsps an upgrade at wr and te. So, if Bills have the same offense and the D kicks it into a top 10 or 12, there is no way in hell the Bills could not win at least 9 games. They would have won 9 this season if the D had at least ranked in thetop 20.
