Here is a little something to keep you up at night.

Asteroid 2012DA14 is approximately 50m (160ft) and would explode with the with about the equivalent magnitude of the Tunguska Event. This is easily powerfull enough to reduce a major Earth city to dust.

The kicker? It was discovered in late February last year. There would be little anyone could do to prevent such an impact. Can you imagine the panic if this were coming down near Moscow, New York, or London?

Vladimir Zhirinovsky, a nationalist leader noted for his vehement statements, blamed the Americans.

"It's not meteors falling. It's the test of a new weapon by the Americans," the RIA Novosti news agency quoted him as saying.
