Mark Vader
It's looking more likely that Mr. Levitre will get his 5/35 18... If that's what this leads to, good.
Dorkington
Odd, I thought he was our best LB. I mean, the best of a group of crap, but still the best. Whatever, lets make more holes to fill!
Kevin
I saw Tim Graham and Chris Brown both tweet about Wilson and Barnett being the top Bills tacklers last season. Poz and Whitner were the top two when they left. I understand about cap savings but isn't there another player that was less productive than these two that they could have let go? The Big Cat
As I was just telling a friend, Barnett and Wilson were the two leading tacklers on the Bills defense last year. Also, they are the ONLY two buffalo players in the top 40 of all NFL players last year in tackles (Barnett 29, Wilson 35). And before you say its because they were only getting tackles because they play behind a bad line, everyone on the list was either a LB or a safety. As others have alluded to, I know they were not great last year, but until we have someone to replace them, seems preemptive to let them go. I guess I understand if its a cap issue, but when does the cap need to be settled by? Oops, just saw nitro's post after I posted mine. sorry to repeat the top tacklers stat And just so everyone knows, that friend was me (and three others). Sup, Suj? For Barnett at least. Wilson I think was very expendable. But Barnett is still the best out of our LBs, and could have easily been the solid depth guy, if we brought in someone better. But, hey, Bills, what ya gonna do.

bobobonators
Wilson's best years are far behind him. Wilson hasn't made an impactful play in about 2 years. Sorry to see him go, but he was a below-average S. Barnett's prime is long-gone as well. Time to bring in younger, faster, stronger talent. Both great guys, but they were average/below average players on a a HORRIBLE defense. If this helps us sign Levitre/Byrd than these are great moves. BringBackFergy
I think Barnett, Wilson may have been leading tacklers...but I wonder how many of those tackles were either a) 5-10 yds past where the receiver or runner should have been tackled or b) were they being picked on because other teams knew they were weak links in the defensive secondary. Just spitballin' here...no definites. I see Wilson and Barnett alot like I see the news about Don Jones...they are capable players but not upper echelon or even high caliber...just meh If that's the case, why continue forward on a path of mediocrity. Look for exceptional players to fill those holes or those players who have a hunger in their bellies to make a difference from day one. If anything, these three simple firings/releases show the balance of the veterans and rookies, they need to perform or catch a ride on the Metrorail to scrub dishes at Chef's. Mark Vader
Kelsay. Kelsay. Kelsay. Yes. Then after him Terrence McGee.
WhitewalkerInPhilly
Yes. Then after him Terrence McGee. Agreed. McGee has lost his step. It is a little baffling to me that we're willing to get rid of these two and Kelsay isn't going yet. We have a lot of dead wood, but I'm not seeing a ton of room for replacements. DrDawkinstein
Odd, I thought he was our best LB. I mean, the best of a group of crap, but still the best. Whatever, lets make more holes to fill! Nope, he was absolutely our worst LB by a long shot. And with our collective opinion on the LB corp, that is saying something. In the 2nd Pats game, NE ran 7 plays in a row picking on Barnett (either runs right at him, or throws to his man). They marched right down the field for a 6 play scoring drive (1 play was called back due to holding). Couldnt cover to save his life, and was weak against the run. Huge liability out there. Too bad, he's a good guy that we all liked cheering for, but couldnt get it done on the field. Say hello to Manti T'eo. Lord help us, no. If we're going LB in the 1st, it better be Ogletree. Just what statistic are you basing this off of. I am not asking because I definitively disagree, just that I don't know. I ask because I looked online and the only stat that people use to grade linebackers is tackles and he led our team in tackles, was 29th in the league and 13th in the AFC? Is there some other better ranking that I can look at? With all due respect, if its just based on ur eyeballing him, your very definitive statement should be taken with a grain of salt. That being said, he did not play as well last year as he did the year before. I just don't know how everyone is coming to this conclusion that HE was the worst (because I know, its not just you). Stats are for chumps. Anyone with half a brain can make any stat say whatever point they are arguing. It's not merely eyeballing him. It was having an entire bar worth of fans keying on him so we could all comment on his play and watching every play as he got demolished. We did the same thing with Tim Connolly on the Sabres a couple years ago. It started as a joke at the bar, then turned into everyone watching him, then turned into everyone realizing he really was that bad. The one Pats drive I reference is just an example. You can dismiss that if you like. Up to you. But I dont know how the quantity of tackles he was marked down on gives you any better insight to performance. As you elude to, it's a fairly useless stat. Unfortunately in this case, it's one of those things where you have to go back to the tape. I cant speak for anyone else, but I know that I came to this conclusion from watching him specifically, and the fact that he was the only true LB that played in our Nickel. And our Nickel LBs got abused horribly last year. I can excuse Bryan Scott because he's not really a LB. But Barnett is supposed to play the position, and it was just a mess. The run D improved once we got out of Nickel and put Shep and Bradham back on the field.

#34fan
LOVE IT!!!!!! Couple of class guys we cut today, No reflection on their character for sure. However, this game is about gettting younger, faster, and stronger in all aspects. Myself, and several others suggested a move like this weeks ago... Hopefully, it means we attack the draft with defensive rejuvenation in mind. -For LB, SS, and S, the draft looks like a frickin' smorgasbord Mant'i Teo... Devonte Holloman... DJ Swearinger.... Matt Elam... Josh Evans.... John Boyett Guys that don't get much press like A.J. Klein, and Will Compton... Oh my! If we follow-through and cut Kelsay in the next few weeks, that opens up the door for names like Zeke Ansah, and Demontre Moore. I, for one, am super-excited at these bold new strokes. To be honest, -It's about frickin' time. Edited February 11, 2013 by #34fan

Sorry to see him go, but he was a below-average S. This shows you have not been watching the Bills just commenting on it. in early 2011 Wilson was acting like a man possessed all over the field making tackles. These were not tackles down the field missed but close to line of scrimmage where is ran across half the field to make them.
RuntheDamnBall
I liked Barnett in 2011. For whatever reason, probably a few of them, he just looked flat-out awful this year. It was probably one part aging, one part Wannstedt, one part being out of positiion, and another part poor / rookie supporting cast around him. I would not bank on him being a factor anywhere in the NFL in 2013, but stranger things have happened. I wish him well and wish it had turned out differently for him here. He made some plays in 2011 and was always a decent guy.
