Solar energy has a "Dirty" little secret

Really? You don't say? Wow, what's new.

Quick, move the manufacturing to China so we Americans don't see the mess!

"The fossil fuels used to transport that waste, experts say, is not typically considered in calculating solar's carbon footprint, giving scientists and consumers who use the measurement to gauge a product's impact on global warming the impression that solar is cleaner than it is."

Just pointing out another liberal lie.

What's the lie? It's still much cleaner than fossil fuels. Over a 20 year life cycle for a panel, it's not even close. And...it remains a developing technology.

Solar/wind/tidal power are all in development and important technologies for the future.

The $144,000 project, funded with a New York State Energy Research and Development Authority grant and a $16,000 local share, will see 10 kilowatt panels installed on city hall and 17 kilowatt panels placed by the treatment plant.

Combined, the two collections of panels will save the city over $2,000 annually.

That is an 80 year ROI on a 20 year life expectancy.

a couple things

1. 27 KWs installed should range about $45,000-$67,500 , more if every single part was top of the line - maintenance contract could add cost as they do need to be occasionally washed or brushed from snow but overall $160,000 seems steep

2. I don't know what the city pays for electricity but for the average joe in WNY 30,000KWHs is $6,000

3. High quality Solar Panels generally have a 20 year warranty but a life expectancy of 30-45 years

4. ROI - don't get too simplistic- solar power is every bit the hedge that gold is against inflation

1. government contracts always inflated

2. doesn't matter what we pay savings doesn't make a good payback

3. 45 years still doesn't pay back initial investment.

4. no it isn't. if had two hours of sun today we were lucky.

You two don't get the point. Solar panels have nothing to do with the environment or saving money. It's all about giving their liberal base a boner.
