B-Man
Dr. Benjamin Carson also has an incredible life story that’s been turned into a movie and is the chief pediatric neurosurgeon at the world-renowned John Hopkins Hospital. From the speech (no wonder "The One" quit smiling.: As the good Doctor made the case for both a flat tax and health-savings accounts: What we need to do is come up with something simple. And when I pick up my Bible, you know what I see? I see the fairest individual in the universe, God, and he’s given us a system. It’s called a tithe. . . . We don’t necessarily have to do 10% but it’s the principle. He didn’t say if your crops fail, don’t give me any tithe or if you have a bumper crop, give me triple tithe. So there must be something inherently fair about proportionality. You make $10 billion, you put in a billion. You make $10 you put in one. Of course you’ve got to get rid of the loopholes. Some people say, ‘Well that’s not fair because it doesn’t hurt the guy who made $10 billion as much as the guy who made 10.’ Where does it say you’ve got to hurt the guy? He just put a billion dollars in the pot. We don’t need to hurt him. It’s that kind of thinking that has resulted in 602 banks in the Cayman Islands. That money needs to be back here building our infrastructure and creating jobs. Here’s my solution: When a person is born, give him a birth certificate, an electronic medical record, and a health savings account to which money can be contributed—pretax—from the time you’re born ‘til the time you die. If you die, you can pass it on to your family members, and there’s nobody talking about death panels. We can make contributions for people who are indigent. Instead of sending all this money to some bureaucracy, let’s put it in their HSAs. Now they have some control over their own health care. And very quickly they’re going to learn how to be responsible. .

And there it is, the essence of the modern liberal mindset: that "fairness" is measured by how much hurt you can inflict on anyone who is doing better than yourself. BillsFanM.D.
Great speech and I commend him for having the gumption to deliver it to 'that' audience. As an aside, I saw him speak at a friend's college graduation about 20 yrs ago. I couldn't tell you who spoke at my own graduation but I always remembered 'this' guy. He is a phenomenal story teller with an incredible tale. Edited February 12, 2013 by BillsFanM.D.
Alaska Darin
Great speech and I commend him for having the gumption to deliver it to 'that' audience. I didn't see the speech until it was posted here but I saw a couple of liberal talking heads whining about it on Sunday morning, particularly the fact that it was delivered in front of the President and how disrespectful that was. For that reason, I knew it must be awesome.
Dean Cain
And there it is, the essence of the modern liberal mindset: that "fairness" is measured by how much hurt you can inflict on anyone who is doing better than yourself. I agree 100%. When kids play little league baseball they give everyone a trophy. This fairness mentality is bs. We need to find a way to shut down all socialist forms of government; and you do that by taking away the federal reserve, social security, Medicaid & Medicare. 3rdnlng
Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing. Many libs have come disguised as a conservative, but somehow embrace an agenda so far right in an attempt to discredit the conservatives, that they blow their cover. Amatuers. 3rdnlng
Yeah thats some post above you. The same readily apparent tactic that the libs crashing the gate at Tea Party rallys use trying to make the Tea Party look bad. Is it no wonder that conservatives are considered more intelligent than libs?
