Mix of college girls from LMU and UCLA and locals in late twenties and 30's. I think you underestimate just how popular Beyonce is and her demographic. She is not Hannah Montana, her fan base reaches a lot more age groups.

I find it hard to believe that Beyonce's popularity goes beyond a small portion of women ages 25-45 and the "diva loving" men in the crowd. That "put a ring on it" song sounds like music for people who are going insane and need a soundtrack for the ride. It's definitely in my top 10 worst songs of all time. I literally can't listen to more than a few seconds of that idiotic song.

8 pages on beyonce > 7 pages on Stevie's "workout plan"

Beyonce is winning by thread count.

She can probably hang on to the ball better too, Just sayin.

My thoughts on her is she beats the krap out of that ol bleached blonde madge by a country mile.

Next year It would be cool to see the Black Keys playing in a Jersey whiteout.

I dont like it either...but all the damn girls in there loved her, and the dudes loved how hot she was. Girls all pointing at their fingers, even married ones lol

I'd rather watch punt, pass, & kick competition. Whatever the hell happened to that anyhow? That was always fun to watch.

Now that is something I would watch.

I would have loved to see them have the battle of the bands at halftime. That would be fun.

As for this limosine liberal stuff.....this is from the Washington Post where the hospital denies they rented out a whole floor. They were housed in an executive suite, so you can get off her case for that BS.

As for not liking some of her lyrics, are you kidding me? Some of the oldsters forget people like Johnny Cash sang about shooting a man in Reno just to watch him die, or Fats Domino was getting a thrill on blueberry hill. If some lyrics bother you, I guess Debbie Boone is your cup of tea.

Listen to some of her songs; she's trash. One of her first hits glorified cheating & whoring around (not that I have a problem with that, but...). She had another about wanting a "soldier" which had nothing to do with soldiers; it was about wanting a thug, which is a great message to send to impressionable adolescents - hot girls like thugs. I believe these are recurring themes for her. The fact that she parades around in every recent video or prime-time performance understaffed for a Maxim spread just tells me she's an exhibitionist who'd probably do a Hustler spread if she wasn't already famous.

I don't hate her for it, but according to the cultural mores of our society she is objectively sleazy.

Rolling Stones have songs abut drugs and sex, theyre fine.

Tom Petty has songs about drugs and sex, he's fine.

The Who has songs about drugs and sex, theyre fine.

Prince has TONS of songs about drugs and sex, he's fine. (Even played silhouetted against a curtain and made his guitar look like his penis. Celebrated as one of the best halftime performances in the last 20 years)

Michael Jackson accused of molesting children, he's fine.

But Madonna gets described as "vile" around here, Beyonce is "sleazy", and lets not even get into how badly the country freaked out about Janet Jackson's nipple...

I dont think it's much a racial thing, as much as it is par for the boys club here. This thread would have done better if it stuck to our standard "Would ya?" format.

Sorry if we offended you by saying mean things about your pedestal standing stroke vixen, but your retort here displays nothing other than your inability to comprehend the subject matter...okay, okay, it also displays your propensity for celebrity hero worship. It's hard to imagine the young impressionable kids of the generation shooting people to watch them die because Johnny Cash sang about it, and no one (at least not me) is claiming there's anything inherently wrong about having sexual subtext to a song. However, when you're a pop-culture icon singing about ditching your significant other to go whore around at the club, or how you get wet for a street thug, kids actually do often take their cues from this kind of thing and act accordingly.

Personally I'm not offended by explicit material, or things of a carnal nature, but let's call a duck a duck. I also like Mojo Nixon and Hank 3 but I doubt they'll be celebrated in prime-time anytime soon.

The fact you are still trying to grasp that she is popular shows your age. She's one the highest grossing artists of the last 10 years and has a huge fan base wide spread. I get you dont like her music, and I am not really into it either, but come on, this is getting a bit ridiculous. It was a packed bar wall to wall. Doesn't matter, go listen to your music and enjoy it, its cool. But just because you don't like it doesnt mean she hasnt sold an insane amount of albums to a wide spread demographic.

In fact, her half time performance boosted her sales by 230% and Destiny Childs by 600% from just a half time show. So I guess not everyone was on board the hate train with her this weekend.

The fact I have been posting in this thread shows how hung over I am and bored today lol

They can pretend it's New York, but that game is being played in New Jersey...LOL I think it's best if they don't play up the whole "NEW YORK" theme. I'd also advise them not inviting the New York guy who took away the Nets.

I think they should do something really simple yet really big, like having Led Zeppelin perform the halftime show. Don't even do a bunch of songs, just do "Stairway to Heaven" and that's it.

Led Zeppelin :w00t: Have another viagra dude. Seriously, you are old if you think that anyone under 40 has any interest in seeing a bunch of emaciated old drag queens in skinny jeans playing classic rock at the Super Bowl. Alicia Keys and Beyonce are on the OLDER end of the demographic that the NFL is looking for and they are like 30 years younger than those old men. Madonna was highly criticized as too old last year and she is about 15 years younger than the surviving members of LZ. It's a sad fact, but we all get old. When you get old, you stop spending your money frivolously.........and then you end up in Hammer's Lot wearing your Steve Tasker jersey while the people in the demographic the NFL seeks are in the stadium lots on their way back from the Bills store with $300 worth of new Bills gear in a shopping bag. :D

Oh c'mon now DrD - Madonna's entire schtick from the very beginning is her whore-i-ness. Surely you know this. The others you mention have songs about said sex/drugs but the sex and running around in lingerie WAS (and largely still is) Madonna's thing. She spawned the entire fashion and legions of "Madonna-wannabes" remember entrely based on going out in public wth lingerie showing.

It is what it is - I'm not busy hating on her either - just trying to keep it real with the comparisons.

Closest male match to her message-wise would be Prince - and he's one hell of a better dancer and an excellent guitarist to go along with all his sex-focus.

Each year they try to top the previous. If they are trying to attract and entertain a world wide audience Beyonce is skewed to the younger demographic. This might be hard to believe for some but Madonna, who I do not like, has cross over popularity and name recognition. I have been to NOLA area and New Orleans has a vast musical heritage. I thought the half time show would have been better if they used all that talent. They could have used a medley of famous local Jazz, Rock, Hip-hop and R&B groups/individuals. I would watch that in a heart beat.

You would, but most others wouldn't No artist is ever going to appeal to everyone, but I promise that Beyonce was a lot more relevant, watched and anticipated than the collection you just proposed. There is a reason you could add up all the record sales of the collection of music you just described and she would have out sold them by 10 times min. Probably even a single album would out sell their whole careers 10 times over. She's loved by the masses, not the few or just the locals. And that's coming from a guy who would prefer the music you just described.
