B-Man Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Another article; Great news: Beijing air quality upgraded to “hazardous” Hey, it’s a step up from “off the charts,” as CNN’s Steven Jiang reports from China’s capital. After being buried in smog so thick that even the Chinese media began to report it, residents lined up at hospitals and worried parents kept their children indoors: (video at link) The Washington Post reports on the new openness in Chinese media, which may reflect the desperate straits of Beijing residents more than it does actual reform by the government: One of Beijing’s worst rounds of air pollution kept schoolchildren indoors and sent coughing residents to hospitals Monday, but this time something was different about the murky haze: the government’s transparency in talking about it. While welcomed by residents and environmentalists, Beijing’s new openness about smog also put more pressure on the government to address underlying causes, including a lag in efforts to expand Western-style emissions limits to all of the vehicles in Beijing’s notoriously thick traffic. … Even state-run media gave the smog remarkably critical and prominent play. “More suffocating than the haze is the weakness in response,” read the headline of a front-page commentary by the Communist Party-run China Youth Daily. Government officials — who have played down past periods of heavy smog — held news conferences and posted messages on microblogs discussing the pollution. The wave of pollution peaked Saturday with off-the-charts levels that shrouded Beijing’s skyscrapers in thick gray haze. Expected to last through Tuesday, it was the severest smog since the government began releasing figures on PM2.5 particles — among the worst pollutants — early last year in response to a public outcry. http://hotair.com/archives/2013/01/14/great-news-beijing-air-quality-upgraded-to-hazardous/
IDBillzFan Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Yes, but they spend money on infrastructure, so shut up.
Cinga Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Yes, but they spend money on infrastructure, so shut up. and ....and.... they make our solar panels, and wind turbines.... so.... all is well!!!!
drinkTHEkoolaid Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 and ....and.... they make our solar panels, and wind turbines.... so.... all is well!!!! And they have high speed rail!
Buff_bills4ever Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 And they have high speed rail! And strict gun control!
Jim in Anchorage Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 And strict gun control! And abortion is not only legal but mandated. What a liberal paradise;
....lybob Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 China has 4-5 times the US population in a similar area - coal is their main power sources and almost everyone aspires to an America car centric lifestyle - they are putting in great effort in developing non-hydrocarbon energy sources and doing other things to cut pollution but the task is Herculean - I really don't see them making headway with pollution at the same time half a billion people are changing from bikes to cars- so good luck China you'll need some.
....lybob Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 But were the ones causing AGW? actually particulate matter while causing lung disease and cancer, blocks sunlight and has a cooling effect (you know like a volcanic eruption) on the other hand when it settles on snow and ice it increases melting- complicated isn't it - like water vapor is a greenhouse gas but if it increases cloud formation then it has a cooling effect- as for causing AGW we were the leaders in CO2 emissions for a long time China finally took the title in 2010, and while AGW is a worldwide problem we as the one indispensable nation certainly took no lead nor set any example in combating it.
KD in CA Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 And abortion is not only legal but mandated. What a liberal paradise; Yes they have all those wonderful things but they don't have UNIONS!!! Unions are the only way to a true liberal paradise. p.s. and if they are "beyond index" levels, why not just change the index? You know, kind of like how you can just raise the debt ceiling and the debt is no longer a problem.

So lets have all our air as dirty China's It will cool down the planet. The air in the central valley of CA is so clean right now that I could see the snow on the Sierras Saturday. That was about 50-60 miles away.

IDBillzFan Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 (edited) 95%? Have you taken a survey? When consistently on the wrong side of virtually every issue, it's easier to look at everyone who thinks you're wrong and figure the only problem is there are not enough people who think like you do. B-Large Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Its ironic that their push for industrial supremacy will likely bankrupt the country with healthcare costs..... Or they'll just let people die...
