Punch Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 (edited) http://www.buffaloru...chuck-driesbach "Per two separate reports, the rest of the coaching staff hires could be announced as soon as today. The website FootballScoop.com - which was the first to report on the Bills' interest in Pettine last week - and Brent Axe of Syracuse.com both said on Sunday evening that hirings could be announced Monday; both also threw the names of new coaches into the mix." Lurker Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Chuck Driesbach? This doesn't sound so promising... http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-03-29/news/sns-rt-fbc-rice-team-reportsx3e2b9a1-20120329_1_kyle-martens-nick-fanuzzi-rice-team

Some guys are just meant to be positional coaches.
JoeF Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 (edited) Chuck is from Central Bucks West where Pettine's dad coached and Pettine went to school. The guys been a coach for 35 years -- coached Patrick Willis, etc..many pro athletes. Not so bad. Remember assistants are homer hires. The coordinators need folks with which they are comfortable and will implement their system. The time to criticize this is when results on the field are below expectation. I know that's hard -- but names matter little right now...Driesbach is actually a coup in my mind.... Edited January 14, 2013 by JoeF
RyanC883 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Agree w/ JoeF. Drisebach would be a great hire.
SBUffalo Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I've been begging for Tyrone Wheatley for RBs coach for a while. I'm assuming that will be his role in Buffalo. Only other guy from the Syracuse staff I want now is WRs coach Rob Moore.
jtf1444 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Just saw this from Coaching search on twitter... Sources tell me Towson University defensive backs / special teams coach Brian Fleury will join the Buffalo Bills. And Also From his website. According to MLive, Detroit Lions special teams coordinator Danny Crossman will not be with the team next season. Crossman's contract was recently renewed. The Detroit News reports Crossman may be joining the Buffalo Bills staff. http://www.coachingsearch.com/coaching-search-ticker.html
Lurker Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 (edited) Driesbach is actually a coup in my mind.... Only if he can bring Patrick Willis to Buffalo!! I'd appreciate why you think he's a coup since it appears he sat out the 2012 season. Not slagging him, but his lack of NFL experience seems curious even if he has a connection with Pettine. http://www.riceowls..../120511aaa.html http://www.mlive.com...nator_dann.html According to MLive, Detroit Lions special teams coordinator Danny Crossman will not be with the team next season. VanCity Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I hope we hear Joe D'Allessandris and Metz in that group. DeHaven would be far more welcomed than Danny Crossman. The Lions ST's were abysmal this year. Easily bottom three in the league. Why would we want someone with that in their track record?

Marrone told Bills' old assistants that he's not going to interview them. What has DeHaven done other than luck out to have Tasker & Pike on his teams in the '90s? He's proven to be a bad ST coach otherwise.

Agree on DeHaven and I also read (I think Tim Graham) last week that existing coaches told they were not being considered.

What has DeHaven done other than luck out to have Tasker & Pike on his teams in the '90s? He's proven to be a bad ST coach otherwise. Hadn't heard that about the old coaches. Disappointing news if true. I didn't say I wanted DeHaven back, I just said I would prefer him to a re-tread whose ST's were pathetic last year. I wouldn't put our ST's in the pathetic category and would actually say there was a degree of success last year on ST's. Might have been the most consistent unit beween D, O and ST's. At least get us something new with a successful pedigree.
BillsWatch Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I think not interviewing them is a bad sign. I try to be an optimist despite dismal fan base but if he is not even going to interview coaches who worked here before I think this will become a group of yes men for new coach rather than coaches bringing new ideas to table. Perhaps he feels he needs to dump the good with the bad but is very short sighted. What is next - not signing any FAs because the previous stink from losses? Sounds like he needs to be in stands with fans rather than coaching.
jimmy10 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 The man's got a right to put together a staff as he sees fit. Sure, institutional memory can be useful, but this is football, not business or politics. I remain cautiously optimistic and will be until things look bad on the field.

DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) The Detroit Lions will no longer have to explain why Danny Crossman is still their special teams coach, because he left under his own terms Monday. Crossman took the blame after the losses to Tennessee and Minnesota in back-to-back weeks while his unit allowed four special teams touchdowns. http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2013/01/14/danny-crossman-out-as-lions-special-teams-coach/
2020 Our Year For Sure Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Marrone just hiring people he knows, or what? Four special teams touchdowns allowed in 2 games? Makes it more difficult for me to give benefit of the doubt on the Hackett hire.
CardinalScotts Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Agree w/ JoeF. Drisebach would be a great hire. the word is he's a great teacher, for a position coach exactly what you want

For god's sake we were 16-32 the past 3 seasons. And we have not made the playoffs in Thirteen years!! I am very happy not having ANY coaches associated with that most dubious accomplishment to have anything to do with the team. A fresh start is what this team needs. And a fresh start is what we will get. Marrone knows his football. Do you really think that Brandon knowing his reputation rests solely on who he hires as coach to move this team forward would bring in some loser? I sincerely doubt it. This organization has been so far behind how the top teams in the NFL do business it is ridiculous. Bringing in Marrone is the start of something big!! Go Bills.
Iraq Vet Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 What is Mark Pike doing these days? Can he coach? Can he coach ST? He was a smart ball player....
SBUffalo Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 So far I like the HC, OC, DC and RBs coach hirings. Rest I'm a little nervous about but will wait to see them on the field first.
