billsfansince1990
Hey guys, I'm new to Two Bills Drive, so here is my first ever post... a mock draft! I'm sure we all know where the Bills need help, but is it worth reaching on a QB in the first round? Here's my prediction of how things will pan out... FIRST ROUND 1. KC - Geno Smith - QB (West Virginia) 2. JAX - Jarvis Jones - DE/OLB (Georgia) 3. OAK - Star Lotulelei - DT (Utah) 4. PHI - Luke Joeckel - OT (Texas A&M) 5. DET - Demarcus Milliner - CB (Alabama) 6. CLE - Damontre Moore - DE/OLB (Texas A&M) 7. ARI - Bjoern Werner - DE/OLB (Florida State) 8. BUF - Manti Teo'o - MLB (Notre Dame) The Bills' defense was an absolute embarrassment in 2012. Ranking bottom 5 in nearly every category, its time to draft a new leader for the Bills Mafia. Teo'o brings unbelievable leadership, determination and a newly restored winning attitude to the locker room. Did I mention that he cleaned house with nearly every defensive award in Division 1 and was the runner-up to Johnny Football in the 2012 Heisman Trophy campaign? 4 year starter at ND with 110+ tackles in 3 straight years, with 7 INT's in 2012. The Bills need a defensive playmaker so why not take the best available defensive player in the draft? 9. NYJ - Barkevious Mingo - DE/OLB (Louisiana State) 10. TEN - Johnthan Banks - CB (Mississippi State) 11. SD - Johnathan Hankins - NT (Ohio State) 12. MIA - Eric Fisher - OT (Central Michigan) 13. TB - Dion Jordan - DE/OLB (Oregon) 14. CAR - Sheldon Richardson - DT (Missouri) 15. NO - Ezekiel Ansah - DE (Bringham Young) 16. STL - Chance Warmack - OG (Alabama) 17. PIT - Alec Ogletree - MLB (Georgia) 18. DAL - Johnathan Hankins - DT (Georgia) 19. NYG - Alex Okafor - DE/OLB (Texas) 20. CHI - Keenan Allen - WR (California) 21. CIN - Sam Montgomery - DE (Louisiana State) 22. STL - Kenny Vaccaro - S (Texas) 23. MIN - Cordarrelle Patterson - WR (Tennessee) 24. IND - Johnathan Cooper - G/C (North Carolina) 25. BAL - Matt Elam - S (Florida) 26. HOU - Tavon Austin - WR (West Virginia) 27. SF - Eric Reid - S (Louisiana State) 28. ATL - Sharrif Floyd - DT (Florida) 29. SEA - Terrence Williams - WR (Baylor) 30. DEN - Kevin Minter - MLB (Louisiana State) 31. GB - Tyler Eifert - TE (Notre Dame) 32. NE - Barrett Jones - T/G/C (Alabama) SECOND ROUND 41. BUF - Ryan Nassib - QB (Syracuse) I know what you're all thinking... "Ryan WHO?" Let me tell you about this kid. Playing for Doug Marrone at Syracuse, Nassib was the lone bright star on a squad full of average-at-most players. A 3 year starter at Syracuse, Nassib threw 60% to receivers who wouldn't make a CFL practice squad, while boasting 70 career TD's to only 28 INT's. Not bad for a guy playing in a run-first offense, or lack there of... NFL analysts have placed Nassib ahead of Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, Tyler Wilson, and others as the most NFL-ready QB in the draft. Just 22 years young, the pocket-passing Nassib COULD BE the Bills key to a bright future. Perhaps flying under the radar could be the biggest advantage Nassib has to failed QB's of the past... Jamarcus Russell, what's up? THIRD ROUND 71. BUF - Tyrann Mathieu - CB (Some little school, but I'll say Louisiana State) Sometimes you have to gamble to become successful. On-field, Mathieu is one of the most talented CB we've seen in years. His ball-hawking, tight-coverage ability resembles Deion Sanders. His ball-stripping, turnover ability rivals Charles Tillman's. And HE CAN TACKLE! Being out of the limelight for a year due to personal issues has heavily diminished his draft value, but had things stayed the same, the 2011 Heisman finalist would have easily been a top-10 pick, if not better. I'd suggest taking Mathieu in the third round and beside Gilmore, can form one of the most dynamic young CB duos in the league. FOURTH ROUND 102. BUF - Kenny Stills -WR (Oklahoma) Rookie QB's need weapons. Stevie Johnson is a great receiver, but to live up to his full potential, the Bills need a secondary option to ease the pressure on SJ13. Kenny Stills (6-1, 190) is a great young talent. Not only does Stills have great hands, he is a YAC receiver. He makes as many plays with his feet as he does with his hands. With a good QB throwing him the ball, Stills can cause nightmares for opposing CB's. FIFTH ROUND 137. BUF - Kenjon Barner - RB (Oregon) If Barner slips to #137, the Bills are crazy to not draft him. Yes, CJ Spiller had a "should have been Pro Bowl" season, but we all know Spiller isn't a 20-25+ carry back. Barner brings a change of pace, great vision, and he can take a pounding. Another Heisman runner-up, take him if he's still there! SIXTH ROUND 167. BUF - Collin Klein - QB (Kansas State) Call me crazy, but why not draft Collin Klein? Sure he's not going to throw a pass in a NFL uniform, but his physical upsides are plenty. He can punch the ball in from anywhere in the redzone, he can be a fullback in goalline situations, he can even play tight end (6-5, 226). He'll sell jerseys, and put Buffalo on a larger scale media center! THANKS GUYS! PLEASE COMMENT! Johnny Hammersticks
First of all...welcome to the board!! While I might not agree with your choices, I certainly commend you for mocking the entire 1st round (not just the Bills' picks). 1. I don't like Manti Te'O in the 1st round, and I think that there may be 2-3 LB's who are better than him in this draft. If we do go linebacker in the 1st I'd prefer Alec Ogletree from Georgia (watch tape of Georgia/Bama to see how a real LB plays against elite competition). 2. I would absolutely cream my shorts if Nassib made it to our pick in round 2. I highly suspect that he will go in the late 1st. 3. Mathieu certainly is intriguing, but he is a high risk/high reward type of player. I wouldn't risk a 3rd rounder on him, but would definitely take a shot at him if he were there in the 5th. Also, he certainly doesn't "fit the mold" with regard to the type of player this regime has been known to draft. 4. I really like the Kenny Stills pick in round 4. 5. Collin Klein? You say why not, but I say why? I'd rather draft a kicker who can hit FG's from more than 40 yards out.
Guest Keith
Ya teo looked real good against the closest thing u can get to the nfl in ncaa football. Alabama...about 7-8 missed tackles and barely showed up in the game he will be an average linebacker at best
billsfansince1990
I chose Teo'o in the first round not because he is the best talent, but because he is the best leader. He's not a tackler like Patrick Willis or Ray Lewis, but he is an equal to, or better playmaker than they are. For every big play Buffalo made on defense this year, we allowed 10 against us. Teo'o will limit that number and provide a solid option alongside Barnett (OLB) and Sheppard (OLB). Nassib likely won't be there in the second round, but I did not mock trades. If he is available around the Ravens, Packers, Patriots picks later in the draft, Doug Marrone will do everything he can to trade into those positions. Tyrann Mathieu will likely go in the 4th round, where the Bills can trade down into as there is no major necessity hanging around in the 3rd round. mob16151
I like how we both took 2 QB's in our mock lol
Astrobot
Good job! I like both QBs, and I think we need a WR1a and WR1b on this team. If Nelson comes back, maybe we have a decent WR corps. Barner is a solid choice, as he can be used in so many ways.
Guest GB
Overall I like the positions taken for each round. Regardless of what everyone says about Teo's performance against alabama, it's one game!!! I think he's what we need to fire up our defense going. I'm not sold on Nassib yet...What about EJ Manuel? The guy is BIG and looks to have the most potential of these QB's. People are going to say its a reach to pick him in the 2nd round since he's currently listed as a 3 or 4 rounder. We would have probably said the same thing if Russle Wilson was picked in the second round last year and look at him now.
Guest Degenerate2344
I absolute commend you for mocking the first round. Good work! That being said, Te'o is not even the best LB remaining on your board. Mingo and Jordan are beasts that would be much better than Te'o. Te'o is a good LB, not a great LB but a good one. Everyone got caught up in the ND hype machine this year and didnt really evaluate him for what he is. A somewhat small middle linebacker that can't shed tackles against top competition. I'd go with either of the other LB's mentioned or go the QB route of Glennon or Tyler Wilson. I like your Kenny Stills pick, i grew up a Sooner fan and Stills has the ability to be a big play WR. The Mathieu pick is more than a stretch, it's the worst reach if they actually did it. He is EXTREMELY short, going up against big WR's in the NFL, he's get absolutely owned. He's very small in stature too. I think he's going to get owned in the NFL, and I'm not even going into his off the field problems. Dude couldnt even control himself in college, whats he going to do with 2 mill in his back pocket?
billsfansince1990
Taking into consideration the fact that I did this mock over a month ago, some of the picks still stand true. I would still like to see Te'o in a Bills uniform next season, but only if we trade down to 13-20 for him. Teams in need of a run-stopping DT (Richardson) or looking for a playmaking burner WR (Patterson) might be worth trading up for the Bills' 8th pick. Te'o's draft value has diminished due to his off-field "girlfriend hoax", but he is still a proven leader. Whether or not he is "Pro Bowl caliber" does not matter. A leader can bring out the best of his compatriots. A young, well-spoken leader in Te'o could bolster the Bills defense in terms of bringing out the best in our other young talent (Sheppard, Gilmore, Dareus, etc). 2nd round QB's will be in abundance, but I wouldn't want to put all my marbles into hoping that "the one" falls to #41. If we grab an extra 2nd rounder in the 8th pick trade, package our #41 pick with a 3rd rounder to trade into the late 1st round. God knows that the Patriots aren't too keen on this year's draft, especially the 1st round. We can steal a gem like Matt Barkley (USC) or EJ Manuel (Florida State) in the late first. Let's make it clear that I wouldn't reach #8 overall for Glennon, and I DO NOT WANT TYLER WILSON, PERIOD! Fitzmagic seems to have fizzled out. With the other 2nd round pick, why not grab a playmaking WR to terrorize defenders opposite Stevie J? One of Terrence Williams (Baylor), Stedman Bailey (WVU) or Justin Hunter (Tennessee) will definitely hit the late 2nd round. You can't go wrong with any one of these studs. 3rd round is where things get interesting. Gone are the days of Buffalo Bills "taking blind shots in the dark" at late round picks. This year let's go for a big name in the 3rd round! Tyrann Mathieu will be a steal in the 3rd. If he's too "high risk", why not go for a proven hardworker like John Simon DE (Ohio State), or an Aaron Hernandez-esque TE like Jordan Reed (Florida)? The safest pick of the 3rd round could be Barrett Jones C/OG/OT (Alabama). The guy can not only play, but excel at every offensive line position. 4th round picks are few and far between. I don't think the Bills have ever had a 4th rounder play more than 30 games. Kiko Alonso MLB (Oregon) is a playmaking linebacker who will instantly start on any team not named the 49ers or Ravens. Alonso would have been a shoe-in for a 1st round pick had he not torn his ACL in 2010, or missed the Senior Bowl due to a wrist injury. Buffalo Nation, once again we are fooling our selves in to thinking we are going to find another Jim Kelly. Let us rest assure that that era is over. I to like Nassib, but he is a far cry from the dynamic player that we have needed for years, Geno Smith is the pocket passing still can run QB, that we have been starving for, and yes he can play in cold weather don't fool yourself, he plays for West Virginia. then we need to trade up for Corrodarrell Paterson WR, just these two additions will open the field up for C.J. Spiller who is a lightning bolt lets not forget. then we can worry about our defense, in which we need a OT,DE,ILB,SS,I have given the facts of what we need to win now, Nassib will be got but we need someone great, no more second place 1993 is a long slumber, four weapons on our offense will defeat us some Patriots, no more Rob Johnson QBs, and if you want a FB/QB then lets get Tim Tebo from the Jets, now that's a leader, and would sell a lot more tickets than Collin Klein. Manti Teo, don't get me started two words, two slow! for the NFL. find us a new Bruce smith or have you guys forgot what he did for us? Mario Williams DE, Elvis Dumervil DE, Marcell Darius should be playing DT, the you would see the results you want, we don't need a lot to be great just to rearrange what we do have.
