Doc Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 So does Rex hire his brother now? I can't see that working. Nor could I have seen him as DC of the Bills, because of Rex being the HC of the Jets.
C.Biscuit97 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) I'm unfamiliar with his philosophy. Anyone care to share? Found this: http://www.scardraft...anHybrid46.html "Rex Ryan's defense isn't really a 4-3, nor is it really a 3-4. He runs a 46 hybrid like his father. The main difference in his 46 hybrid and his father's is the coverage responsibilities, and the amount of blitzing. Ryan's 46 package is one of the most complex schemes in the NFL." Sounds good and there is going to be a ton of pressure on Gilmore to be our Revis. Very interesting that they list 2 of our guys as ideal fits for the system. Edited January 9, 2013 by C.Biscuit97
mrags Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 So does Rex hire his brother now? a scroll on NFL network just said "Rex Ryan has stated he will not hire brother Rob" FWIW
RyanC883 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 So does Rex hire his brother now? what a show that would be. sibling rivalry and all!
VADC Bills Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) This a good move. His record with the Jets and Ravens will allow him to bring a hard nosed philosophy to the Bills. It seemed Marrone knew what direction he wanted to take prior to taking the position and is moving quickly towards it. Edited January 9, 2013 by VADC Bills
BillsGuyInMalta Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Hey Rob Ryan...our LBs need a coach. Come on board, buddy.

TakeYouToTasker Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Awesome. Awesome, awesome, awesome. !@#$ing Awesome.
Fixxxer Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 This is awesome. Hopefully he can maximize the talent we have on defense, specially LBs. Harris or Scott are not more athletic than Sheppard but they were in position to make plays, more often than not. I want to know if we have something in Moats or White, too. The most important thing, though, is that our guys need a change to be more agressive and mentally tougher.
RkFast Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Nice hire. very nice. But do the Bills have the LBs to run the 46? The secondary? Thats going to be tough.
Wagon Circler Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 When I first read in the Star Ledger that Pettine didn't want to resign, my first thought was "get him". I believe this to be an excellent hire and we are already a better team than this year.
bobobonators Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Bills hired Mike Pettine as their defensive coordinator. Pettine's contract with the Jets expired after the season and they never made an effort to bring him back. So he makes the lateral move inside the division and joins new coach Doug Marrone's staff. Pettine's unit ranked eighth in 2012 despite losing Darrelle Revis for the season in Week 3. And in the three years before that, the Jets' defense was inside the top-five each season. The Bills, who have bounced between a 3-4 and a 4-3 over the last two years, have some serious building blocks on defense in DE Mario Williams, DT Marcell Dareus and CB Stephon Gilmore.
C.Biscuit97 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Gilmore couldnt hold Revis' jock. Let me guess, you called Spiller a bust after his rookie season as well? Not saying he will ever be that good but to crap on a kid after his rookie year is just silly.
cgang Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 more "confirmation": http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8827684/mike-pettine-hired-buffalo-bills
Matt in KC Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Maybe we'll run a new innovative 3.5 - 3.5 - 4 base defense. . . . I'm excited!
BobChalmers Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Is continuity changing defenses every 2 or 3 years? That's the only reason I am annoyed. We only ran the last "scheme" for one season, did it poorly, and, oh by the way, we fired the guy who came up with it. In other news, it was awful. Pettine and his team have been flexible as heck over the years, btw.
Heels20X6 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Gilmore couldnt hold Revis' jock. Why not? I'm sure Stevie Johnson would lend it to him after he dekes Revis out of it.
26TrapDraw Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 now this hire I am sure about. Pettine is a young aggressive coach and his defenses with the jets have been stout and aggressive even with the rest of their circus going on. This is a great move.
beerme1 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Gilmore couldnt hold Revis' jock. True. However Gilmore I did read somewhere that Gilmore had a MUCH better first year than Revis did if that counts for anything.
