wgr550 interview going on now is really inspiring for Bills fans check the replay if you're not listening live.

I am about as impressed with this guy as I could be in the offseason. Obviously all that really matters is what happens once the season starts, but he sounds so forward thinking, engaged, and eager. Pretty much the polar opposite of Wannstedt.

Here's the link to John Murphy's interview with Pettine on WGR:

Forward-thinking is right, MRW. Holy crap, this entire coaching staff sounds aggressive, excited, and forward-thinking. The Bills moved faster than anyone this offseason to reshuffle their front office and hire an impressive staff that sounds like it's the exact opposite of what we've been forced to watch the last decade. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?? Am I having a wet dream or something? And how am I supposed to wait until September??

Watched this dude's interview on bb.com, love that he is quiet and reserved on camera, almost the opposite of the "im so excited Marrone" (not that Marrone's enthuiasm is bad, Pettine just seems to belay an authoritative confidence is all) and IMO that should help with the teaching of the new stuff he will bring.

There can be no doubt the D is ready for something new and didnt believe in Pornstache's approach. However, I think a guy who would come in and overcompensate with rah rah Gregg stuff might be tuned out. Pettine brings results, but based on how he projects himself in the few interviews and on the field footage i have seen so far, it feels like he coaches in a way that highlights confidence in who he has, not bravado about what his schemes can do or have done.

We'll see. I might be in left field. However, my feeling is he is going to have this D believing in themselves and each other. A middle of the pack (top 15?) improvement may be within reach!

Listening to him on GR was awesome! Talking about multiple fronts, overload blitzes constantly changing to keep the O guessing. Then goes on to say that just rushing the same 4 downline man only works if every guy is better than there opponents but you you are still going lose. Priceless.

Do you plan to run a 3-4 or 4-3 as your base defense?

“The answer is really yes to both. We’ll be a multiple front, multiple coverage defense. The trademark of our defense is we’re going to be smart, tough and relentless. How we configure it is more player-driven. I’ve always believed that you don’t fit your players to your scheme, but you fit your scheme to your players. What I see here is a group of explosive athletes and playmakers and we’re going to put them in a position to do just that. We’re going to be in the configuration that gives us the best opportunity to win football games.”

It's a nice feeling for once. Five teams looking for HCs and we are filling out a staff. Love the fact that both coordinators come from football families!

I was taken aback after hearing about the Hackett hire, thinking "oh great, here we go with an all-college staff!" But the Pettine hire made me feel a lot better not only with the direction of the offense, but the Hackett hire. Now they need to go out and prove it.

Anyone like me more excited about the new DC then the HC? I can't wait to see the chains taken off the defense .

I couldnt agree more....now im really hoping he bring Mike DeVito with him (FA DT from the jets) who has made a habit of abusing the bills the past couple seasons - among other teams....he is a true animal and can play in both 3-4 and 4-3 schemes...plus points thats hes 6'4 and 305 pounds...would love that FA sign to add depth and talent to the D-line, allowing us to draft other positions of need

Priceless.

What would Wanny's reaction to hearing this quote be?

So when was the last time a head coach lost all three coordinators, and their GM in one offseason? with westhoff choosing to retire, pettine declining to renew his contract, and of course sparano and the GM canned.... all gone, none to promotions - what a disaster of a locker room.

rex really made it through all THAT standing still?

Plus they're in rough shape salary cap wise.

I wouldn't find it hard to imagine that the retiring and pettine declining a new contract were a result of Rex not going anywhere.
