SBUffalo
This thread is obviously dependent on us being a 4-3 defense. Under the 4-3, Jarvis Jones is not a legitimate option for us, in my opinion. That's some good tape that shows why he doesn't fit. If you watch, EVERY single play in the game Jarvis Jones starts at the line of scrimmage and on almost every play he blitzes. He has a few plays in coverage, but not enough to get a read on how he plays in coverage. Also, his motor seems overrated to me. If the play isn't coming directly at him he seems to have no interest. You can bet at him being very capable of containing guys from bouncing to the outside, but he doesn't seem to be able to contain and attack the ball carrier at the same time. If he wants to make a play, he makes it. But it's like he has to make that decision first, he doesn't actually just have it on every play. Also, he has spinal issues which could be a red flag. I just don't think Jones is a fit IF we stay in the 4-3. I think he's a fantastic 3-4 guy if we do make the switch.
Astrobot
Yeah, spinal stenosis isn't getting better. He has the least drop-off between being OLB34 vs OLB43, though, and Marrone-Pettine will run a hybrid defense. I'd hope he wouldn't be on our short list. Guest Young Herschel
Jarvis Jones was one of the top 4-3 linebackers in the nation at Carver High in Columbus, GA: Texas, Florida, Clemson, LSU, Southern Cal - all the top 4-3 defensive teams offered him after he led Carver High to an undefeated championship season as a run-stuffing 4-3 linebacker. Southern Cal coached him up as a SAM in their Tampa Two 4-3 defensive system. Jones is a playmaking linebacker FULL STOP. Before transferring to Georgia, he had no background as a pass-rushing 3-4 linebacker: NONE.
Guest #34fan
Clear case of damaged, overrated, goods... I had my eye on this kid for a couple seasons. -He's a roster-spot for a team that needs depth, but I don't ever see him as being a high-quality starter.
