Mort: Browns rebooting coach search

Recommended Posts

Exactly. We grabbed a coach who was not only sought after by other teams but seems intelligent, has NFL experience and uses the players he has to their maximum potential (i.e. CJ won't sit on sidelines winded). I like the pick and am excited. Season Tix here we go again.

As for Chip Kelly...I'm glad we didn't look like those ladies on "Black Friday" who line up at midnight and fight over a 21" ACER flat screen tv...we got what we wanted and didn't fall into the "have to have it" pressure.

This unfolding story with Kelly is interesting.

It is now looking like he either goes to Philly, or he returns to Oregon.

There was discussion in the now locked "Chip Kelly" thread about how he may be playing the NFL to better his position at Oregon. This guy is starting to come across like a loose cannon and I am starting to think it may be a good thing he did not end up in Buffalo.

He may be some sort of ego-maniac gone mad.

Sounds like he is demanding total control over personnel and thinks he can custom fabricate a college-like cocoon of control at an NFL organization, which is unlikely to happen.

I will laugh if this guy returns to Oregon, and then never think too much about him again.

I just can't believe a college coach, no matter how good he is in college, with ZERO NFL coaching or playing experience thinks he can demand soooo much power for an NFL gig. That is a very hard thing for any GM/owner to agree to IMHO. Just wow, if Kelly really wants that much control.

The "Chip Kelly" saga may have more bad information around it then any story in NFL history. He went from "a deal in place" at Cleveland to "going to Philly" to now "going back to Oregon."

Wow. I would have said there was zero chance of him returning to Eugene. Now it almost seems likely. I wonder if he got cold feet or if teams just balked at his demands. Either way, I don't think he comes out of this looking very good. I have to say though, if Kelly puts together another 12-win season, which is likely given the players they have returning, the NFL will be knocking on his door again.

That's impossible. And even if it was possible, we're not allowed to say so.

And no gloating either. We suck so we can't claim success in anything.

Because some of our fans say so.

Big difference between saying we did the smart thing, and pointing at the Browns and saying hahahahahaha nice job getting a coach.......3 years after we got turned down by everyone and had to resort to digging one out of the trash.

Just saying that we don't need to invite any more curses/bad karma on us....

GO DOUG/GO BILLS BABY!!!!!!!!

My comments were not totally directed at you.

After reading 40+ pages of petty backstabbing among Bills fans, I'm tilting at windmills a bit here.

I'm criticizing a composite, imaginary Bills "fan."

I didn't mean to indict you. Sorry.

That's fair, especially considering the Browns organizational direction is generally viewed in a very good light. Cleveland is not the same wasteland as the Bills were in when they were forced to hire an off the radar candidate like Gailey (or Jauron).

Bills fans laughing at Cle's failed attempts to better themselves is akin to one bum laughing at another bum as they both lay in the gutter.

"hahahahah how does that rat taste?.....I'm dining on pidgeon over here"

Y'know . . . you're not completely wrong, dammit.

A week after starting their coaching search, the Browns have to start over again. There's no other option after failing to sign Oregon coach Chip Kelly, the team's top candidate.

This is a major setback for the regime of owner Jimmy Haslam and chief executive officer Joe Banner, who wanted to send the message that the new Browns are different than the old ones. After firing coach Pat Shurmur on Monday, Haslam and Banner both boldly said they would go after the top candidates and had no fear of getting one. It's hard to save face during a coaching search that has been a series of blows from not landing Kelly to losing out on both of the fallback options (Penn State's Bill O'Brien and Syracuse's Doug Marrone).

.....at least the bills can say they got one of the coveted coaches ( cle, philly & san diego)......
