This thread has become like one on politics. Everyone is trying to convince each other that their side is right - he's either a terrible choice or a great one. No one knows how it will play out. As an optimist, I always hope for the best. Why does it hurt to believe in hope that the Bills finally got it right? But I certainly can understand why fans would question the move as well. time will tell.

I do know the Bills did what I wanted - something different. I wanted a younger college coach (David Shaw was my 1st choice however) because that seems to be the trend of the league. But I dod think it is laughable that people say it was for marketing. Syracuse is like Amherst's size and most of the people there are Bills fans. Maybe if we hired the Toronto Argonauts coach, this might make sense.

I hear ya, i wanted Shaw too but it seems like he and Chip Kelly were not attainable....so here we go.

Hearing about Marrone's college discipline policy, it will be interesting to see how this transfers to the Pro's. The players don't have to love their coach but they do need to respect him.

He has been at the NFL level before, so he should know how to motivate at the NFL level. But I know what you mean, it has shades of Greggo to it.

The word on the street is he is a get in your face guy but not a richard. And the college coach to the pros seems to be the trend now. The reason I like Shaw the better than Kelly was because he ran multiple offenses (spread, 3 tes, etc.). A reason to like Marrone is he does the same thing. You need to be able to adapt at the pro level because you are going to just win because you have 5 star recruits. Marrone won at Cuse with 2 star recruits.

It will take a Doug (Marrone) to remove the curse of another Doug (Flutie).

Cosmic shifts are happening here folks. Planets are lining up.

I can cleanse the facilities with burning sage and throwing salt. For a small fee of course. :D

I'm not optimistic but the guy deserves a chance. He is what we have, and its up to him to show what he can do with the draft coming on, with free agency, and with keeping existing quality players, and then he has to turn them into something respectable on the field. This time we should give him a timeline and some expectations instead of just floundering around for four or five years.

I like the hire, he isn't another retread. An up and comer in the college ranks with NFL experience, and nothing but praise from those who have worked with him.

How has he proven this? Sure his defense has always been top 5 if not top 3 in the league almost every year, but you can't ignore the fact that he's NEVER fixed the holes on the team. Every year, that team has struggled at QB play and offensive line play. Playing OC carousel every year like he's never the guy to blame. Sorry but I've never liked Lovie as HC. Great defensive mind but he's the same as Rex Ryan but with different personalities.

I think that you are off on your top 5/top 3 assertion. A quick check of the facts will let you know for sure.

Agreed. Nothing we can do about it now. It's done. As for a timeline, I think I wouldn't expect anything less than 5-6 wins this year given our talent level and then improving every year beyond that. If we aren't a playoff team by his 3rd year then we clean house and are back to square one IMO. Same way we have done it for the past 13 yrs

Might be stupid but marrone has his own Twitter account... he is a modern coach that hopefully can relate to the players more

Another thing to think of is most of the guys coming out in this draft, he is probably pretty aware of. Between his own recruiting work at SU and then simply being in the college HC ranks... So you would think he comes in with automatic familiarity with this year's class that some coaching candidates who have been in the NFL wouldn't have.
