bobobonators Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Fred Jackson said he wants to remain with the Bills even if he's asked to be C.J. Spiller's backup next season. The Bills' next head coach will have final word, but even Jackson seems resigned to his fate. He'll be 32 next month and is coming off a season in which he averaged 3.80 yards per carry. "You just got to give C.J. credit," Jackson said. "He played amazing this year, and with the opportunity he got he made a tremendous amount of plays." Jackson could even end up being cut if the Bills want to save money at the backup running back spot. He's due $2.15 million in base salary in 2013 rotoworld.com You guys want to keep him?
CFLstyle Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I'd want to keep him, yeah. Great attitude; loves Buffalo; unselfish -- and who are we kidding, most teams deploy two good running backs in their attack these days. People rave about his blocking skills and he's a great leader, too, not to mention a perfect fill-in if Spiller does get hurt.
ALF Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 He's 31 starting to get injured. Being a backup will prolong his career. He's well paid and respected here, why move on?

I would keep him without hesitation. His injuries were freak type injuries due to a specific hit not a recurring health problem. When heathly he can still bring it, he showed that this year, and there aren't too many real leaders on this team right now, and he is one of the few.
apuszczalowski Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 CJ is not an everydown back, they would still need someone like Fred to run the ball and run the ball up the middle to get the tough yards
nucci Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 As great as Spiller has played, the offense hasn't been the same since Jackson first got hurt during 2011 season. He was on his way to an MVP season and the O was hard to stop.
section122 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 2.15 million is peanuts for a locker room leader and backup running back. There are many other players I can think of that could/should be cut before Freddy.
Maury Ballstein Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 yes definetly keep freddy.....with a coach who is smart enough to realize he's Cj's backup, he is ideal IMO.
NoSaint Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 2.15 million is peanuts for a locker room leader and backup running back. There are many other players I can think of that could/should be cut before Freddy. agreed. could we get a more productive guy cheaper? possibly. but not by a ton. and itd be a guy with red flags. id rather a known positive, than a potential negative in that role.
Wayne Fontes Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 A better version of Robb Riddick. Keep him.

There are many other players I can think of that could/should be cut before Freddy. Agreed. They took care of him last summer with a new deal. He got some new money. Keeping him at $2.15 in a reduced role is a bargain.

Yes Freddy is a great team guy proven by his comments that he wants to stay even if it means being a back up & a leader that leaves it all on the field every play ! Now when you get to Fitz he definitely needs to restructure his contract if he wants to stay around. His contract was a front office mistake from the get go ! They should have at least waited till the end of the season to do him as 20/ 20 vision looking back has proved ! But Freddy is a keeper worth the $ !!
phypon Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Def keep Freddy. He could assume a Kevin Faulk type role. Perfect fit since he can catch so well.
Bangarang Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Perfect complimentary back for CJ. Great guy as well.
C.Biscuit97 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 He should want to stay. The Bills basically paid as a reward. I love FJax and he was a beast in 2011 but old rbs have no real leverage. I'd love for him to retire as a Bill.
stevestojan Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 He could have protected the ball a bit better and he's starting to wear down, but yeah, for 3rd downs, why not?
C.Biscuit97 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 He could have protected the ball a bit better and he's starting to wear down, but yeah, for 3rd downs, why not? True, why the hell did he start fumbling all the time?
papazoid Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 absolutely KEEP freddy.....he's worth $2 mil in fact, i'd like to see freddy AND spiller in the backfield together......forget mcintyre or the full back. play hurry up and on occasion put spiller in the slot as a WR, that will create a mismatch.

RB's get dinged up all the time and if he can come to training camp already accepting his role which should still get him 8-10 carries and plenty of time on ield in passing situations cuz Spiller is better off split out wide having BOTH on field, or vice- versa depending on situation.. having 2 starting CALIBER RB'S is a great comfort zone for whomever our QB is. FJ has always been a team leader and RB would be are BEST position on team again.
dhg Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 A better version of Robb Riddick. Keep him. FJ is miles better then Riddick ever was. It's not even close.
