stony Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 People will crap on this, but I'm cool with it as long as we draft a QB in rds 1-3
BillsGuyInMalta Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 People will crap on this, but I'm cool with it as long as we draft a QB in rds 1-3 This. Fine with releasing Fitzpatrick, bringing in Smith as a veteran hand and then drafting a QB in rounds 1 or 2.
mrags Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 People will crap on this, but I'm cool with it as long as we draft a QB in rds 1-3 ok fine. You sold me. Do it
Maddog69 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 (edited) I'd be fine with Alex Smith on a 2 year deal to keep the seat warm for whatever QB we take in Rd 2 (after getting the best LB in RD1) Edited January 2, 2013 by Maddog69
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I don't get how reporters can just make stuff up. He can guarantee it based on what? The rank speculation continues....
apuszczalowski Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Didn't Nix say yesterday that they were drafting somoen, and probably bringing in a FA also? The only person having a worse New year then Chan has to be Fitz right now....
NoSaint Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 People will crap on this, but I'm cool with it as long as we draft a QB in rds 1-3 agreed. hes a solid vet. has good tools (have to, to be drafted that high), and has learned not to make mistakes. we could do far worse as our "hold the seat" guy. that said, without a HC, this rumor is nothing more than a rumor.
5 Wide Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 why lose to get the #1 overall pick when you can wait a few years for the former ones to not live up to their potential and then sign them.
26CornerBlitz Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 http://www.cbssports...eek-next-tomlin I could handle Smith being a caretaker QB until a "young guy" acquired in the upcoming draft is ready.
Buffalo Barbarian Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 http://www.cbssports...eek-next-tomlin As long as Greg Roman comes with him I'd be for it, as Greg turned him into a successful and more importantly a winning QB.
BillnutinHouston Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 GR reported earlier today (apparently via Ian Rapoport) that the Bills contingent floated the idea of Alex Smith to Ken Whisenhunt at his interview. CBS must be running with this report.
Best Player Available Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I could handle Smith being a caretaker QB until a "young guy" acquired in the upcoming draft is ready. Just wondering if you have seen a lot of Alex Smith pre 2011? He sucks unless a guy named Harbaugh is with him.Keep Fritz if thats the case.
KD in CA Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Despite the recent successes of young QBs you still can't count on being able to hand one the keys day one and have him be an effective starter, so they need to have someone else in camp. Smith is an obvious upgrade over Fitz and would be a much better choice than other available vet FAs.
kasper13 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Almost guarantee? Geez. I can 100% guarantee that I have never heard of Mike Freeman until 2 seconds ago. That's what these guys do nowadays to try and make a name for themselves. Almost. 95% done. Sources say with near certainty. Whatever. They always leave an out. If they hit on a guess or two then people start following them. The Bills do not need Alex Smith. They do not need a "caretaker". They do not need a "stopgap". They need to draft a QB early and start him immediately. Half the playoff teams have rookie, 1st or 2nd year QB's starting.
